Re: A L A S K A ! ! ! ! - By Henry on 08/27/07 at 11:40:18 - 'AlaskaOG1973.gif' 121 KB
I think Alaska RRing is pretty interesting, but I have doubts about its viability as a state board. We certainly need more interest than has been shown so far.

Here's an Alaska RR page from an Official Guide, 1973 I think.

I would like to hearby suggest a State of Alaska Board; in Regional Area Operations.

The State of Alaska has currently the state owned Alaska RR and the White Pass & Yukon Railroads;  much tourist activity on those lines and lots of freight on the Alaska....

Alaska had 1/2 a dozen or so railroads of different sorts over the years... lots to talk about as well as always the rumor of the Alaska RR linking directly to the North American and/or the Asian RR Networks.

If created, please sign me up as a co-moderator.

Bel-Del/Delaware River RR Excursions Board - By WM734 on 10/22/06 at 22:00:37 - 'IMG_4121_adfa.jpg' 134 KB
I believe this tourist line has quite enough popularity to have it's own board. Every year it improves greatly and currently has the only operating steam locomotive in the state of New Jersey.

Any takers?

A Caboose Forum Would Be Nice - By toddsyr on 05/04/06 at 04:33:52 - 'RMSX_95033_CAB_SYRACUSE_NY_MAY_3_06_768x512.jpg' 57 KB
I looked for but didn't see a forum for cabooses here in the forums. I think it may be a good idea though. No, I couldn't moderate one or contribute tons of material, but I bet there's many here who could. Any takers? ( Hint Hint Caboose9 ) I just bring this up because I wanted to post a pic of an unusual hack I photographed yesterday. It's a former Pandrol Jackson hack of unknown lineage. I happened across it while railfanning here in Syracuse. The cab is at the OnTrack station. Kinda rough shape, but I bet it'll get better soon enough. Anyhow, here's RMSX ( Pandrol Jackson ) 95033 at Armory Square, Syracuse NY on May 3 2006. Kinda has an Erie look to me, but what do I know? I also posted a pic of FGLK 1003 in the Central NY Forum. That would've been a neat addition to a cab forum also. Todd.

Ok. I would love to see the Family Lines Board. Being a east coast railroad fan. And the Family Lines merger to me was the last of the real railroad merger to run like a railroad. No like a BANKMAN'S toy.

The ERIE RAILROAD board. - By Adam17 on 01/04/06 at 00:48:57 - 'Erie20Logo.jpg' 17 KB
Here's an idea. Our very own Bruce(ErieAtlantic7597), built a 7.5 gauge live steam locomotive, a 4-4-2 Atlantic type loco from the Erie RR. Though not 100% accurate, he did alot of it from memory, when he use to live in Paterson, NJ, near the Erie RR's station. I say, lets bring it back on these boards, under Fallen Flags. The Erie RR served as a belt (I think that's right) line, between the NYC and PRR, running from Hoboken NY, to Buffalo(I think, Bruce would know more)NY, traveling thru northern NJ, PA and southern NY. Bruce knows way more than I do, but without the Erie, there'd be no ERIE Lackawanna. They lot's a steamers, including thier largest, though experimental, loco, the 2-8-8-8-2 Triplex. Boy was that thing huge. They had thier share of Northerns, Atlantics, Pacifics, Mikes, etc, and 1st generation diesels. I say, this would make a cool board. Why, Bruce and I can mod it! What do you all think? Good idea? Bad idea? Don't know? Post your comments here!

Mike-

Though If there gets enough support, then I think we could Add Steam under it, But for now the description says:
Quote:
Minority Diesel & Gas-Electric Builders, Baldwin, FM, Plymouth, IR-GE, Etc.

So, its Diesels only for now, unless theres enough support to get it changed...

Re: Wilmington & Western Board - By Charlie_O on 07/20/05 at 22:29:37 - 'WW_98c.jpg' 233 KB
THE W&W is definitely an interesting li'l RR...  known for its tirelessly devoted volunteers (who've restored trackage after some savage floods), its recently restored 4-4-0, and its B&O heritage.

My only concern about a new board is the same one that came up when the WK&S board was being debated...will there be enough interest to keep it going?  But given the success of the L&HR board, I'm gonna vote yes.

Also, I just moved significantly closer to the Del-Pa state line, so I hope to get to the W&W soon.

We have the building, nothing to see in it yet, but its slowly coming around..............

Re: Delaware & Hudson board proposal, need your gu - By x600 on 03/28/05 at 01:46:01 - 'DHuboats.jpg' 483 KB
O.K. Boys, back on with an upgraded hard drive, mo power, and a better surge protection device.
If this was a discussion about any other road, I wouldn't bother, but since you guys are posting with such excitement, I'll jump on the band wagon, after all , it is the D&H, but before I do, I have to make a few comments. I was browsing through the Forum Suggestion board, and noticed that over the years there have been a lot of suggestions for forums which may not have a broad view, but some were created anyway. I was looking at some of thes boards and noticed that they have had their ups and downs. Even the N-Scale board that I proudly co-mod is prone to major flat spots to say the least. Many of the people that have used these boards, simply have found other interests or other forums.  I have watched people come and go, or post just for the sake of watching their Number climb. In other words there is a lot of stuff piled up in between the good information, which fills lots of space on the site.
I guess what I'm getting at is, if Henry choses to create a D&H board for us, will we be kind enough to fill it with usefull information or just another place to post numbers?
I for one would be pleased to co-mod, and would try to keep things flowing.
Whadaya say Henry?

Re: A Live Steam Board - By BC_and_A_railway on 11/29/04 at 21:00:02 - 'Live_steamand_thomas.jpg' 124 KB

A live steam board is a good idea, so long as there is enough interest to keep it active. Many live steamers that I have known and still know today, started out in one or another of the smaller scales, including myself.
There are many ideas and solutions out there to solve problems that live steamers run into. I certainly don't have all the answers, all I have done in my posts, is to elaborate on what worked well for me.
As live steam equipment gets larger and heavier, the track structure becomes a very important part of the hobby. Not everyone agrees on how this should be done, but depending on the purpose and desire of the builder of the railroad, different methods of construction are employed that meet their particular wants or needs.
Shareing differing methods is both interesting and informative.
Lets give this new board a shot, after all, live steam is just bigger model railroading.
                                            Bruce

Thanks for you're support Bruce. Many live steamer did start start out in smaller scales but now there live steam in HO to is soo cool.

Any one interested in having a board for this in Tourist RR's?

I live in Belvidere NJ about 8 blocks from the L&HR Mansfield Street Station area and would be glad to help out with pics and research. I'm also close to the Great Meadows Station and points North. I hang around the L&HR Phillipsburg NJ yard also. I was a stand-in moderator recently and I wouldn't mind giving it a try...

In any case, I'm sure I can add a little something to this forum if it becomes one...
