This is a nice photo of a great paint scheme, but the typed on caption is completely baffling.  B&M rosters say 3806 was scrapped in 1960.
the location name might be  "Westanhope" or W.Stanhope , neither return any geographical search results.  Stanhope is an old  family name in Boston.

Look at the shine on that E unit! That looks far more like 1952 than 1972.

No doubt! That's the as-delivered "RI" style scheme from EMD, and it didn't last too long either before they repainted them with the full maroon & dulux striped scheme. Neat and maybe somewaht rare photo.

B&M rostered one E8A along with its 20 or so E7s. #3821. I would very much like to see what it looked like if anyone has an old book book they'de like to glance through!

I believe 3821 looked just like 3806 per your photo, as it was delivered after the switch to this scheme. As an aside it was the only B&M E unit to be sold to another road(the MP in 1961), all the E-7's want to the scrapper.

The real wild card IMO was the 3814 which was the only E to get one of the Blue, White & Black "McGinnis" schemes.
Neat-o!

Yes, here is 3814 in her blue bird scheme.

A number of F units got very similar treatment, which I am modeling in N scale presently.
I think you are right that 3821 was only ever maroon and gold.

WOW, thanks for posting that one! "...dubious aesthetics" my butt!
maybe it's the Lionel connection but I ALWAYS liked that McGinnis B&M scheme, and that shot is pure fabulous! Apologies to the old maroon minute-man scheme fans but I always though it looked a little derivative of other roads, it's nice but ...I think the McGinnnis scheme was great though clearly it suffers from guilt by association with it's namesake.
( old school NH fans should be able to relate to this too)
