Man, oh, man, it's a good thing I wasn't sippin' a can of soda when I read this. I'd STILL be cleaning off my monitor and keyboard!!

When my railfan cronies and I were young and smart-alecky, we had a coupla names for our favorite streaks o'rust... NOTE:  These names are NOT intended to be disrespectful toward anyone's favorite Road.  We didn't believe the descriptions ourselves; we just thought we sounded clever sayin 'em.

Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe (AT&SF) =  Atrophied, Tired, and Slowly Fading

Santa Fe was also referred to as "Sani-Flush"...

Denver & Rio Grande Western (D&RGW) =  Dilapidated and Rapidly Growing Worse

Southern Pacific (SP) = Sufferin' Pathetic

We especially enjoyed harpooning the Espee, primarily as a passive-aggressive response to their blatantly anti-passenger philosophies.  It was not until many years later that I learned of Southern Pacific's high quality of service prior to the 1960s.  Today, I have a great deal of admiration for Espee's passenger heritage.

Regards,

Norm

Brazos Valley & Trinity was known as the Rabbit, becasue it was "always jumping teh track"

HE&WT was actually, per local folklorists here in Nacogdoches (one of the principle stops on teh way from Houston to the Texas-Louisiana border) was actually "Hell Either Way Taken.

While not a railroad and this might be an unpleasant, I thought I would chime-in with "Phoebe Snow died an ERIE Death

This was painted on a bridge years ago here in NJ somewhere. I can't remember exactly where.
