There's a small park near the Ironton Rail-Trail along Reliance St in Egypt P.A. It contains a set of bridge piers i thought were from a trolley bridge but this map in Mike Bednar's latest book blew that theory out of the water!!! This section of the map (from 1971) clearly shows a siding connecting with the IRR main.

There are ties still in place where the branch once crossed Reliance Rd.

In this image from the Penn Pilot website (1939) i've circled the branch and what might be a coal unloading trestle...Anyone out there got any info?

This branch appears on the 1911 Ironton system map which is hanging in the Whitehall Township municipal building. The structure in question is labeled a "Coal Wharf", and there is a trailing point spur off the branch shown serving the structure. The location was referred to as "Steckels" on Ironton maps and timetables.

Currently there is also an abandoned (filled in with water) quarry pit at the westernmost end of the branch. Not sure if anything was shipped from that quarry on the branch line.

I have also seen a postcard of a small building labeled "Ironton R.R. Depot, Egypt, PA". It appears to be a public freight station. Not sure where exactly in Egypt it was located, and if it had it's own spur. It does not show up on the 1911 map.

Thanks for the info one87th!   Glad i guessed right about it being a coal yard..Man i LOVE Penn Pilot! And i have a funny feeling i'm taking a trip to the Whitehall Township Municipal Building on Monday! ...I wasn't aware they had an Ironton RR system map on display... Any idea if the siding was still in use in 1971? The 70's Penn Pilot aerials show no sign of the coal yard yet the IRR system map shows the siding as being intact.
