Here's something ya don't see much...The RDG applied these tool boxes to class NmD through NmJ cabooses but most of them were removed by the 60's. This is the first one i've seen in person.

What the ? I thought that car was restored a few years ago..  Was it that long ago, or am I mixing it up with another car?

Either way, thanks for posting shots of a cool IRR artifact.  That railroad doesn't get enough coverage, but a nice amount is still intact..

Here's what it looked like about 6 years ago..There was someone working on it..The one window was restored to the proper location..tool box re-installed etc.. But for some reason the work stopped...He posted about the resto work in the Fallen Shortline forum.....

Update: Ironton #6 is in the process of being restored .    As of 8-30-11 the lower sheetmetal has been removed from both sides (the ends are still intact)....After completion she will be moved to near  the rail trail crossing of Ruch  Street in Whitehall..Here's a shot of the side facing the parking lot

Here's a shot looking into the interior  from the former location of the lower sheet metal..You can see the end door and the distinctive round toilet compartment window (You can also see that #6 has been completely gutted).

Here's a pic i took on 10-25-11 while the workers were still installing the sheet metal on the other side,, Excuse the trailers in the pic...They were still running the haunted hayride when this was taken. (Note that both windows have been returned to their proper placement and the new panels lack the rivet details)

UP close and Personal view of the center seam with the butt strip and rivet details..I call them "rivet details " because i'm not sure what they are! I'm guessing carriage bolts maybe...
