Here is a link to Historical USGS maps which show the WB&E Railroad..

The JPG files are quite large, but well detailed.

Independant Explosives manufactured nitroglycerin dynamite.

Black Powder was manufactured by Dupont  and was later bought out by Goex Powder Company.  There were also some storage magazines in the area of the Suscon Bridge.  I remember having to detour around the old underpass many years ago due to some problem and the truck in front of me was driven by an acquintance. He told me he had to drive really slow because he was transporting some sensitive material.

Sadly quite a few lives were lost due to explosions in the manufacturing process at both of those facilities.

Pocono Northeast RR used to deliver ammonium nitrate in covered hoppers.

Did anything come of the plans to restore rail service to the industrail parks?  Sort of just died off in the thread.

Don't know, haven't been down that way in awhile. LV Lou indicated possible plans to rebuild the bridge over Bear Creek Rd and when we went down we did see all the brush cut off the tracks leading up to the park. The park removed the reverse 'S' curve and the remaining tracks beyond the curve were still in place.

I have heard that service was restored down to the new rail dam section recently and that is the same track.

To revive an old topic, we went back to Suscon to check out the Erie & WB&E, We first walked north from the missing bridge over Suscon Road. Track has been removed about a mile north of the missing bridge.

Ties left in place including the tie plates. The spikes were just cut off and left.

Now going the other way from Suscon Rd, this is the spur track that we saw before just after the
 missing bridge.

Just shy of the dirt road crossing, the rails are gone now. Looks like expansion of the industrial park and the end of any potential rail service.
