Another put down of everything done in the settlement of the USA.  So we weren't perfect in every way.  Neither has anybody else in any civilization or non-civilization on this planet.

It might be more than a put down. I believe the story of immigrant laborers is also worth telling, as long as more than just oppression is told. Our growing pains weren't pretty, but they happened.

The tone of this thread is troubling. It casts a negative reflection on other immigrant nations. Particularly Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Post WW2 immigration permitted the development of infrastructure and industry. Any reflection on the immigrants must also be directed to those citizens who through their situations became responsible for assisting the integration of the immigrants into wider society. The source countries of the immigrants has been wide and with 1 exception has been an unqualified success.

It is important to record and acknowledge the history of these matters, for several reasons. I would not like to see the success of the decades of good work sullied unfairly and dishonestly.

AH! GEEZ! Is it any wonder we avoid political nonsense in this Forum?

In this instance, if it looks like a duck, if it quacks like a duck, therefore it must be a duck? Why would any of the cohorts
here have the time of day to consider just another effort of a PhD candidate? Dime a dozen characters of writers with just
another book (likely won't sell much) on some fad du jour exercise?

Ah! Take this one outside? In this example, maybe the efforts of the writer of the tome better served if they trained as a
Diesel mechanic or tech? Pays better!

My original post after post 1 by Mr. eamurphy, which by the way was his one and only post, was on the thought that this guy was/is a drive by poster trying to get publicity for what, as HwyHauler points out, is probably a PhD thesis book which from the title alone appears to me to have some form of axe to grind socially or politically or both.  I get more than a little aggravated by people that fault things that happened 100 plus years ago by some form of idealized current day standards.  Let's pause a moment and think what would have happened if the 1830's era steam engine had been required to pass the current emission standards.  If so, no 19th century railroads, or many other forms of progress based on improved transportation and communication.  For most of us that would mean we would be spending a large part of our time watching the back end of a mule while walking barefoot in the dirt or doing some other form of heavy labor just to keep food on the table and  a roof over our heads.

Incidental Odd Notes. In scope of the title of the instant work? Here, your writer with homage to this Buffalo based Forum.
What of the Great New York State Boondoggle and Public Works project, the Erie Canal? Indeed, it did put Buffalo on the
map. Entire books document the whole project, and various conflicts and inevitable scandals which came with it...

Eastern Europeans in the Penn State Coal Fields? Here, the splendid work of the Public TV outlet in Wilkes Barre with
copious past work already available.

Moving West? The legacy of much of the old Rock Island Railroad? Much of it built by Irish immigrants. Even better? The
coming of the Great Transcon Railroad and Scam. There is a past TV series about this...

Whether any of it was "fair" to all involved? "Social justice" ends satisfied? SIGH! It was all  so long ago...
