Today's "JERSEY JOURNAL" features an excellent pullout on the infamous 1916 Black Tom explosions in Jersey City.

Tremendous damage was spread over a large swath of the Manhattan/Hudson County/New York Harbor area.

There is not only a reproduction of the front page of the JJ on that day, but also, there are a number of rare photos showing the mass destruction; some LVRR barges can also be seen in these photos, as well as the charred and splintered remains of wooden box cars.

There is also a photo showing the wreckage of a munitions plant, with two locomotives caught in the rubble.

If you can grab a copy of today's JJ, it is well worth the price; this is an excellent historical article which includes several very rare photos that should be of interest to anyone interested in the NY Harbor railroads of that era.....

Am suffering a mental black-out and can't think of his name, but a German agent (who may or may not have done all he claimed) wrote a book on his "exploits" between the wars. After he got out of the Federal joint in Atlanta (interesting and complicated tale there). One of them was a claim of having had much to do with Black Tom.

Yes it is. Franz von Rintelen was the name that was slipping my memory.  And of course there was the involvement of von Papen, who will appear again in history....
