Compiling a brief database of occasions that steam has "polished" the rails between pittsburgh and altoona over the former Pennsy mainline since its demise. If any "older hands' know of any other movements, however insignificant, well, post'em here:

1960's:

NKP 759 over the curve in the late sixties. (not sure about this)

1970's:

 maybe the golden era

1975-76 American freedom train 2101 over the curve. Stalled out on grade I think.

Few trips mid to late seventies by former Reading 2102, once in accompanyment with Cuyahoga Valley Line ex GTW 2-8-2  #4070.

1976. Entire Sloan Cornell Penn View Mountain RR with ex Mississippian
2-8-0 under steam from Blairsville to Gettysburg PA via curve.

1980s:

1985 ex-Reading 2102 from Brownsville, PA. to new home in Reading via curve.

1985: K-4 1361 dragged off its perch on the curve back to Altoona. (maybe in retrospect, this wasnt such a good idea).

1990's:

none. NKP 765 was scheduled to run over this route (early 1990's) but was cancelled due to insurance crisis. (very disappointing- I had tickets purchased and all!)

2000:  Yet to be determined (could be updated soon though!)

Didn't 1361 run some excursion or test/training runs in this time frame either before or after it was placed at the Curve?  Don't remember the exact details.  Those may have been on the NBER, but it still had to get there.

The 2102/4070 trips were May '77 if I remember correctly. 4070 threw a main rod just short of the Curve on the 1st trip. 2nd trip was accompanied by 2 SD's the entire trip. Needless to say, with all the problems there weren't anymore...
