Calling all eyes. Anybody around the shops where the tunnels are being rebuilt?

I was wondering how the work is coming.

I caught my first B&P train today. BP 453 led a train into the B&LE Yard at Butler with two LTEX tunnel motors.
In any case, my railfan friends and I did some exploring on both the B&P main and the branch to Petrolia. I am curious as to how many trains per day run on the main between Butler and Mosgrove and perhaps how many between Butler and Petrolia?
Thanks and happy new year!!

I'm not sure about the main line traffic, but the Northern Sub to Petrolia is ran M-F and an occasional Sun.  1 turn train leaving Butler approximately 1000 and returning 1600 on a normal day.

Whoa- I Finally caught a daylight run of the Homer City Coal train today.  The afternoon sun was on the wrong angle (of course!) Here are the photos.

The GP38 lash up has just coupled onto their empty string of coal hoppers in this view from Neal Road. The track to the power plant can be seen winding round the hillside in the background.

Pumping up the train air at the "Begin Homer City Industrial" sign. Penn View Mountain looms in the background. BRRRR!

The snow covered landscape of the Neal Family dairy farm is the backdrop for B&P #7803 and her train as the GP-38's creep toward Cherry Run Road around 2PM Saturday.

Five GP38's in three different pain schemes are the usual power on the Homer City Power Plant coal train. #2001 crosses Cherry Run Road as the train heads North toward Indiana.
A memory card error ended my photo shoot. Got ahead of the train and was going to take some shots in Indiana but Murphy's Law *&^%$#&# ruined that idea.

PVMRR76,

Nice work.  I fanned in Butler yesterday and got quite a few good shots of BT-3 and BLE 904 South.  I didn't have time to do anything with them yesterday, and I am working 7AM today-7AM tomorrow, then class all day tomorrow.  I will post when I get the chance.  I got BT-3 coming under the fly-over with the main on their way NB on the Sub.  I got guite a few in Chicora since they were having mechanical difficulties.  #2 and 3 engines were only kicking out 700 amps, and they almost didn't make it up the first hill before Chicora.  They stopped behind the Chicora FD so the shop crew could access them instead of getting stuck in BFE on the second hill.  I have a photo on RP.net of BT-3 coming SB across the Chicora Bridge with a veteran's tomb stone in the foreground from Oct 06.   My intentions were to get the same photo with the snow on the ground.  Being that BT-3 was taking a lunch break in Petrolia at 1800, I ran out of daylight.  Oh well, gives me an excuse to do it again.  Today and yesterday was beautiful for rail fanning.

Towny72,

According to the Yahoo group, 2004 came straight from Mexico in very sad shape.  It evidently took several years to rebuild.

Does anyone know if 2004 is the former Villa de Sudbury engine 458?  If so, I have a not so good photo of it under re-build in the Brookville Shops.

B&P's 2 ex-KCS SD40T-2 Tunnel Motor units are now in service. I was lucky to get shots of both of them at Butler this afternoon. They are numbered 3301 and 3302, and they retain their KCS paint, with all KCS lettering painted out with matching Gray paint and now have Black numbers on the cab sides, and Black B&P on the hood sides. I thought sure these would come out of Brookville in B&P color's. I guess they figured that the KCS paint was in excellent condition and kept it.

2004 came from Mexico?/ Dang it must have been in really really bad shape. Ive seen a ton of pics of Mex units. I guess there isnt a gov agency for Railroads so the units look be held together with whatever they can find. I feel bad for the guys at the shop on that one....Please get the pics of the new tunnels up guys. I cant get around B&P opps much anymore so its hard to find these guys.....

I was wondering if anyone knows how frequent the B&P goes to the Burgh on the P&W?  Also, do they interchange with AVR at Glenshaw or Downtown?  One last thing, what is the train designation?  As in PSFR- Dubois to Freeport, BTNC- Butler to New Castle, etc.

the B&P only goes as far south on the P&W as Bakerstown.  The AVR meets them here to interchange cars.  Sometimes if one is lucky, both railroads will be at the interchange at the same time.  I usually catch the AVR at Bakerstown very late at night, several times a week.  I have not been lucky engough to catch the B&P there yet  .  Perhaps Matt can lend some advice, as I  know he has managed to see some intersting happenings around there.
