I saw a treat on my way home from work today around 4:20PM.  Three tunnel motors running light, heading south across the Allegheny River bridge.

No, I didn't have a camera with me when I saw the light engines, so no pictures.

Nice snowy shot at the grade crossing in Penn Twp.

Really?   This is the first i have heard of this.  What locos have you seen? Any of the 900 series SD40T-3's?  I ask because down here (Pittsburgh, PA)  we have not noticed any missing units (yet)  .

Post pictures if you have them!!!

Oh, this may be obvious, but where is CN's Kingston Sub.  I am not very familiar with the railroad's physical plant.

Thanks for the info, and the complement!!!

MGtrainut:

I know the 909 is a CN system roamer.  The 903 was sent to Illinois for repairs and was inteded to return to B&LE rails.  It of course had the same thing happen as the 909.  Its a system roamer too.  Here is my proof: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=97224

Went to Butler on Sat. and managed to get repremanded by the AK steel police.
While watching 867 switch the mill, fellow railfan Derek (LL1060) and I were approached by two officials in a white minivan.  They asked us what we were doing, so we told them that we were watching the train switch the mill.  However we were apparently on B&LE property, as they claimed we were trespassing.  I guess we probably were, but only on the pull-off directly by Route 8.  They told us "ok, but dont do it again"  I guess it is probably best to not take pics near the mill, or any plant for that matter.  Everyone seems to be on "Terrorist watch."

Got some good video at Butler yard despite everything.    The crew was friendly, and waved as they went past.

Another heads up. Anyone watching Bessemer near Harmar should be careful-police are keeping an eye on the Bessemer in that area cuz of fools on quads & dirt bikes and people dumping gabage on railroad property. Just got questioned over that today.

And Mike-When we were over by AK Steel they warned us about tresspassing, but said there was nothing they could do to us because we were tresspassing on B&LE property.

Hey Derek,

Atleast the police dont treat us like terrorists!!!

If anyone notices any unlawful action taking place around railroads, please try to report it to the local police.  That way we will be seen as the "Good guys" , and the authorites will realize we aren't causing trouble.

And repect the "no tresspassing signs" unless you have permission, as the authorities have every right to question you then.   Tresspassing is breaking the law.
Those AK Steel police had no right to claim we were treasspassing, as we were right by the highway.  Only Bessemer could do anything in that case, and it is unlikely that they would.  We weren't close to the rails or climbing up on equipment. Railroads know that railfans exist.  According to another forum, the AK Steel police have actually detained a B&LE employee walking to the train.  Go to the Bessemer message board for more details.

And Derek, did you see the looks on the kids faces (riding the quads) when they saw the Bessemer license plate on the truck?    They got scared for a minute!!  Im surprised that they trespassed anyway!

Sounds like you 2 had fun, to bad I wasn't there.  It's unbelievable how some people overreact.  Arresting a railroad employee for trespassing on there own property, how over zelous can you be.  I guess it's good to be on the safe side but it's a thin line between being safe and being way to over protective.  But what are you gonna do.

At last check, both B&LE 906 and 909 were in Western Canada, "free roaming" on the CN

Saw the thread while I was browsing around and had to comment on the passing of the B&LE:

I became a "railfan" thanks to the B&LE, spent almost two years living in Albion back in the day, 1974 through 1976. Saw and did much and spent two great summers watching that railroad. I wandered the yards from the depot out through Cranesville many times, back when one was allowed to do such things. I was quite young, in my early teens but had a great respect for the railroad and the men who worked there. Those were great days.

Thanks for the memories old girl, you'll be missed.

I think I'm going to be sick!!!  All the dead employees of the B&LE are rolling in there graves.  Roy C. Beaver never would have guessed in a million years that his babies would would be pilfered by some hosers.

One Month Left to Catch the Bessemer in action!!!

Read in this month's Railpace that bessemer has recieved another chunk of money from the state to improve trackage north of Greenville PA .  I wonder how this works since the B&LE is owned by CN?

Saw tunnelmotors 902, 904, 908 in Russelton with 109 cars of coal last Wed. they were crawling. IE they got down to 20 mph at the slowest. WOW. Heard the EMD diesel motors ten minutes before we saw the engines.
