Shenango Yard is here in Greenville jointly south of the B&LE shops.  CSX should be coming to get some more hoppers tonight.  There is a large string on the "P" company track waiting to go somewhere?

Well technically that line runs in a North/South direction in Western  PA, but It goes from Chicago to New York, therefore its East to West to Norfolk Southern.  They call that there Meadville Branch which ends at the Old EL yard in Meadville.  From there Norfolk Southern continues East having trackage rightrs on the WNYP.  CSX has trackage rights on this line also, and occasionally I will catch a pure CSX coal train heading East on this line.  But to answer your question it is NS mainline with CSX also having Trackage rights.

Since we are talking about CSX.  Look what was on the Bessemer Mainline today.  2 AC4400's took 130 loads of coal north to Conneaut on the Bessemer.  Had bessemer hoppers, and not CSX hoppers, and regular bessemer crew.  Very interesting considering the fact that rumor land has been saying that CN might bring Gevo's here?  If they were testing these, then I think they failed.  2 locos was not enough power for this train.  They could barely make it up the small hill on the low line.  Like I said, only time will tell.

Well thanks to you guys, you sparked my interest in the P&C docks at Conneaut. An hour's drive away for me and the possibility of finding Bessemer power is all that it took to get me out the door this morning. Unfortunately, my poor camera's digital zoom still couldn't work the distance so the shots aren't the best. I did find the DM&I unit along with two Bessemer units. This shot is directly across the river from the CN office

A little further north toward the lake. A mile-long conveyor belt system and other transport equipment have made the dock company’s coal handling facility one of the biggest along the Great Lakes.

I started to roam about looking for better vantage points and came across one that looks down from the CSX Buffalo mainline. Lake Erie is off in the background

I'm just about to leave the area when I hear his engine working a string of cars south. I catch him at the bridge just before he reverses and heads north again. SD38AC, #868. The Nickle Plate bridge is in the background with the CSX main (not see) behind that.

Thanks for the info on the activity at the docks. This will defintely be a favorite spot of mine. Looks like good fishing too!

Thanks Bryan. You have a nice webpage yourself on the B&LE. I take it you're from the N Bessemer area then? Any other message boards for the Bessemer that one can suggest? I found one on yahoo.

Thanks Brock. Nice photos as well. I'm checking it out now and hitting the links too. I see you're in Fredonia, which puts you close to the Bessemer line then.

Going by Carsten's map of the B&LE, I was mistaken thinking the B&LE line ran due south out of Conneaut to Greenville. That explains why the horn from yesterday's train sounded further east from Conneaut. I was tempted to give chase but figured there'd be another day for chasing. I also see the towns of Albion and Wallace Junction though Carsten says little to see at Wallace. How 'bout Albion?
