The ex Penn/Con units had there PC Leasing plates on them till just a few weeks ago.....Sad thing is RJC had the mechinical dept remove those and the builders plates when putting on frame striping. As any RJC fan knows RJ is very very picky on how things look (even if its an FRA violation)

Reported RJC has purchased a half dozen SD40-2s. Not sure if these are tunnel or standard SDs....

Not sure about the quantity of the SD40-2's but i know theres at least one floating around but it usually stays down at cresson yard to switch the plant there... Also, they bought i believe 2 new GP40-2 rebuilds be done at Junieta Shop... Rebuilt top to bottom...

There has been 1 SD40-2 on the prop for years, a tunnel was sent up to help with the loss of all the GP38 high hoods that were sent to Juniata for rebuild. The new unit you see on the prop is a GP38-2. RJC has no GP40s yet! With rising fuel costs I would imagine they might entertain the turbo for there lexington opps, but for RJC PA lines the non turbo GP38 is ideal.... The new SD40s are from UP, but doubtfull to be on the prop for some time, You know RJC isnt going to have some patch units running around. Oh by the way somebody needs to tell the RJC employee that was taking pics with the cab door open thats an FRA violation. I would hate for the wrong eyes to see that!

Id like to see a few wide cabs on the line altho you know that will probably never happen unless its NS or Ex-Con Run thro power... While the GP38's are ideal i sure dont like the High Hood versions. Restricted visibility when running long hood forward.. SD40-2's are nice... Thats a good engine and should do well for the company considering it doesn't push the gauge of the rail out... Heard talk that its one of their concerns with the bigger 6 axle power... Along with that old rail and tie

Rail isnt so much an issue, its ties. Old ties dont hold spikes and longer axles can really push on gauge. As for weight thats not much of an issue, you actually have a larger footprint for the weight with 6axle locos. Now 100 car unit coal trains will play more with that then a few 6axles rolling along.. But from what I hear of the track up there ties are a big issue.....

Ill agree with you there... The ties are in pretty bad shape... The whole line could use some serious refurbishing or complete upgrading but I doubt seeing that happen unless they get alot more trains when that new ethanol plant is built... Just my opinion tho i could be wrong... They may never completely redo the whole line as it would be extremely expensive...

Any updates on trains loading or run through NS coal empties? I plan on going up to Clearfield around March 17th and hope to catch at least one train. Will make the 3 pound burger go down faster.
