On my way home, I checked in at Caledonia, NY, to find the little shack still standing.  It stood by the crossing of the GNW and the Central's "Peanut Line."

I returned to Olean by way of Bradford, where the BPRR leaves a couple 4-axle GPs.  This was the first I saw a GP40, #3001.

Dubois, PA: I followed the BPRR/ex-PRR "low-grade line" from Driftwood.  Found an old tower at the crossing of the former BR&P and PRR.  No real good view of the tower, and not much traffic.

Looking south, another position light signal bridge.  Supposedly, NS, BPRR, and WNY&P all interchange here.

Driftwood, PA has a PRR caboose on display.

Lots of tank cars stored on sidings on the WNY&P, north and south of Olean.  I looked up the zone in a pre-Conrail report from 1974 or 1975, which shows a Port Allegheny chemical plant that generated lots of carloadings back then.

The Buffalo guy chasing the BPRR southbound on July 1 told me the WNY&P heads out for Driftwood on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  I think they went on Wednesday, returning well after dark.  I heard an earlier train from my tent - after I had gone to sleep - blowing for a nearby crossing.
I decided to drive to Driftwood anyway, to see what I could.  Lots of trees.
Ex-PRR position light signals south of Portville, NY.

Re: July 1-3 2015 - By firstbelt on 07/06/15 at 20:07:30 - 'IMG_1196a.jpg' 123 KB
A local guy walks his dog around the railroad property in the mornings, and told me the crew now uses a trailer parked alongside the ex-BR&P East Salamanca station.
I drove over to where the Erie station was, until a year ago.  Not a trace remains, after the fire.

It was sort of early, and about a 20 minute drive to Salamanca.  The southbound SIRI was waiting for the crew to board when I arrived.

The sun came out the next day, July 2.

Ellicottville has a station still standing, with lots of crossing signals and switch stands parked around the property.  Not sure what function it has.  The BPRR tracks are beyond the station, farther away than I would have expected.

Again crossing NY Rt.16; weather was a little overcast.
The guy in the picture is a Class 1 railroad employee from Buffalo, who chased the train to Salamanca.

Southbound BPRR BFSI at Machias Junction with three PRLX SD60M lease units.

I took a couple days to check up on the B&PRR and the WNY&P, with a campground on the east side of Olean as my base.  Never do that again - traffic on Rt.417, plus 1 or 2 trains on the WNY&P line to Driftwood - after dark.

I managed to catch NS passing through Silver Springs for starters, on July 1.

I spent most of Monday morning, 7/26, foaming the Falls Road Railroad. I drove into Lockport NY about a half hour before the guys opened the enginehouse (LARGE polebarn  ). So these two shots are self explanatory.....nothing like a SMOKY Alco after not running for a few days!! BTW.....what is the #334? It says Delaware-Lackawanna on the side, but all I know is the unit is from Scranton and that it's an Alco B-B- unit. So enjoy the pics!

Some WNY Shots.... - By Alcoman on 12/08/03 at 14:36:46 - 'nyle1013snow.jpg' 102 KB
Found this in a box of photos I took in 1996 or 1997.  It is a shot of NYLE 1013 (ex NW 1013, C-425) climbing the Dayton Hill TT westbound out of Gowanda sometime in the early spring of 1997.
Enjoy!!!

The Buffalo Southern is still chugging along. Hereisa shot of their C415 which is worked on as time permits. It will be nice to see this rare Alco in operation some day.

Was just passing thru and saw this thread, and it got me looking thru my photos.  A few months back I saw what looked like an Alco FA in NYC paint in South Jersey.  Here's a pic.
...another mystery
