TIOC 506 coming to the WNYP?

Rumor mill cranked out that the TIOC 506 is possibly being purchased by the WNYP?

Ugly unit in its current state, but I think would look sharp in the WNYP theme..

I hope it's true!

It's an ex-D&H RS3u.

Does it have an Alco engine in it still?

Yes, still has an Alco engine, a 251C.

Quote:
RS3 Units 4115, 4106, 4107, 4113, 4122, 4112, 4119, and 4128 were rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen into RS3m units numbered 501-508 respectively, between December of '75 and March of '76. Re-engined with the 2000hp 12 cylinder 251C engine, the long hood was raised six inches to accommodate the larger engine. The dynamic brake was also moved to a box behind the cab. This class also known by their M-K designation of TE56. 506 was delivered in Bi-centennial colors as 1976 but was later renumbered back to 506

from: http://www.bridge-line.org/blhs/rs3m.html

506 is the only surviving D&H RS3u of the eight, and is also the only surviving Bicentennial engine still wearing her Bicentennial paint from 1976.

Official sources have confirmed that #506 has been purchased and will be returned to service and used on the WNYP.  It is not known by the writer if it will move to Lakeville or Olean for repair.

Wheels and/or trucks from one of the two out of service RS1's at Wellsboro will be acquired to be used on LAL #20 so it can return to service.  The two units at Wellsboro will be scrapped.

Now that would be an interesting combo.  LA&L 20 working with 506. Thanks for the confirmation.  It's all I was asking for,  cut the rumor out of the good news.

All five of the Tioga Central Alcos in Wellsboro PA have been purchased by the Livonia Avon & Lakeville. RS3m No. 506 and S2 No. 14 are planned to operate.
the three RS1's are in bad shape, and were purchased for parts. they will be parted out and scrapped.

Hi
Maybe this will be in store for the 506.
They do have an important link to the D&H, and this would look very cool.
The photo is my N-scale kitbash from over 25 years ago.

Cheers
Steve

Steve; that's a real nice looking unit you have there, nice job modeling. It would be nice to see if they use that paint scheme,or ,I hope, just freshening up the Bi-Ci its wearing.

Well, Bi-Ci or D&H scheme would give whichever road it might be assigned it's own Heritage unit sort of........

I don't know if #506 or #14 has been moved yet, but the TIOC RS1s have been scrapped in PA.

I did see #506 with her new reporting marks a couple weeks ago:

Both photos in this post were taken by me Thursday 8/21/2014 in Wellsboro Junction, PA.
