What a difference a week makes...

After a very cold day by the tracks on Sat 2/15, I marched out on warmer day a week later. The roads were mostly clear, so I could even chase trains on the western portion of the Southern Tier Mainline.

First up was NS westbound mixed freight 309 at the West Middlebury Road crossing.

I wanted a better shot of the trailing BNSF unit on 309, so I drove ahead and intercepted the train as it came down Attica Hill.

The skies cleared after 309 passed, so NS eastbound mixed freight 13T arrived at the Spring Road crossing (MP 389) under bright sunshine.

Good roads and my dependable chase vehicle allowed me to get ahead of 13T, too. My final shots of the day were taken near the Dale Road crossing (MP 380):
