A late summer day in Buffalo

I squeezed in another trip to greater Buffalo 2 weeks ago. It will probably be my final visit there until next year. It was a productive day.

The day began with NS local H0K and a CSX local on their respective lines at Buffalo Creek Junction.

CSX also fielded several road freights, including this eastbound mixed freight.

I moved over to the Lake Avenue crossing, where I caught NS H0K heading west.

A westbound NS mixed freight (probably 309) rumbled across Lake Avenue a short time later. The power included a trailing standard cab SD60.

I moved back up Buffalo Creek Junction later in the morning and caught SD40-2 #3410 returning light after dropping off the consist of H0K.

An eastbound CSX coal train also crept up under the Tifft Street bridge:

OK, let's continue the pictorial. I headed up to Williams Street in the early afternoon. A westbound NS intermodal freight slowly crept out onto the Bison runner.

Knowing where the NS intermodal was headed, I returned to Buffalo Creek Junction. It took a while for that train to arrive. In the meantime, an  eastbound CSX tank car trainpassed a couple of other parked trains as it headed towards Tifft Street.

The CP power was a pleasant surprise for the unit tank car train on CSX.

As the tank train stopped at the signal near CP Draw, two westbound intermodal freights. One was on the CSX Chicago Line.

The other train was the NS intermodal freight seen earlier.

Now, here is why Buffalo Creek Junction is such a treat. Left to right, we can see the NS westbound intermodal freight, the parked CSX coal train, the westbound CSX intermodal freight, the parked CSX unit tank car train and the parked CSX intermodal freight.

A short time later, a unit hopper train with BNSF power came through Buffalo Creek Junction.

The previously parked CSX intermodal freight crept forward about 1000 feet, but the train did not leave Buffalo Creek Junction while I was there.

With a light drizzle in the air, I decided to head back to Lake Avenue. A former CR SD70 led this eastound intermodal freight.

The next eastbound NS intermodal freight was led a by a widecab Dash 9.

After dinner, I spent some time at Lakeview Road. NS was quiet, but CSX was rather active... including this westbound intermodal freight.

This eastbound CSX intermodal freight was next.

It was followed by another westbound CSX intermodal freight.

Before I left, I also caught this westbound CSX mixed freight.
