I spent a nice day in greater Buffalo towards the end of last month.

As is my tradition, I began the day out at Buffalo Creek Junction. NS local freight H0K was in the yard.

The B&P local also arrived while I was at Buffalo Creek Junction.

To view the rest of my visit to Tifft Street/Buffalo Creek Junction, includings lots of CSX action, please visit:

After the action Buffalo Creek Junction died down, I headed north.

My first stop was Ohio Street, where a CSX local was working in former Buffalo Creek RR yard.

The short train worked its way up the former BCK line next to Ohio Street.

After the local departed, I headed over towards CP Draw.

The power for NS H0K was tied down in the former NKP/N&W yard just east of the bridge.

I did spend some time at Red Jacket Park to watch the action at CP Draw. An eastbound CSX auto rack train crossed the bridge while i was down by the river.

The former DL&W ROW is part of the park, too. It provides a nice perch for watching the trains going to/from Cp Draw... including this CSX intermodal freight.

My final stop for the day was NS's Bison yard. It is a former EL property, which was fitting for the 41st anniversary of the EL bankruptcy.

Auto racks are unloaded next to the old DL&W main:

A rare look at the yard west of Harlem Road, which is hard to reach.

A few locomotives were in the yard, but they weren't moving.

Crossing gates are actually stored on top of a container just east of Harlem Road.

All photos in this post were taken by me Friday 7/26/2013 in Cheektowaga, NY. I hope y'all have enjoyed this pictorial of my most recent visit to Buffalo.

Great shots! Youve already answered a few of my questions. Its neat to see some action at the Bison site. I guess NS totally rebuilt that facility. i wonder if any of it is remains of the old facility. it looks like your second to last shot of Bison is the general location where EL and NW had their loco facility.

Your #4 and #5 shots are interesting as well. Im pretty sure the area off to the right is where the huge Bethlehem and Donner Hanna plants were located.

if so, in Peter Jehrio's series of Niagara By Rail books, there is a corresponding picture of a B&O mallet in that area back in 1942. I love doing then and now stuff.

Wow what a difference.

The old Erie Buffalo Division track and a couple of tracks next to it are original, IIRC. The former DL&W main is also original. Conrail removed the rest of Bison in the mid '80s and NS began rebuilding it in the late '90s.

I agree with your guess about the loco service facility, too.

I just checked my copy of Jericho's book, and I think you're correct about the location. And yes, it looks ALOT different now!

P.S. Thanx for the kind words.
