Transport Minister Lisa Raitt announced Via Rail will spend $10.2 Million to repair the track in northern New Brunswick Canada.
CN was planning to abandon the line and Via Rail had previously said it could not afford to buy or maintain the 70-kilometre stretch of track between Miramichi and Bathurst..

A Via Rail spokesman said the company's board will likely ratify the agreement at a meeting later this month.

He said the company hopes the investment will increase the ridership and eventually, increase the frequency, if Canadians ride more on the "Ocean Route"

He said the repairs will include leveling the stretch of track so trains can travel at higher speeds.

It had been reported earlier that several members of the Federal Government had been receiving many complaints concerning the earlier announcement that CN was planning on abandoning the line.

This goes to show us that  contacting your member of Parliament can help to keep the trains running !
