And now for something from the "good ole days"....July 12, 1985. Eastbound Canadian near Banff..excuse the quality of the pic, didn't have the best camera when I was 9!...but that's 6309, 6613, 6651, 6615, and 6308, lashed up the way things were meant to be the A units were fresh out of the rebuild program, you could still smell the fresh paint when they rolled by the platform in Banff.

I forgot to mention, if you look at the cover pic on the book "Westbound"(forget the authors name), I am 99% sure it is the same train, the same day, only at Morants curve....You're right, lashups like that didn't happen often, especially after all the non rebuilt CP units were retired in 1983...sets with A units trailing alone were rare after that.

Skeena Service awaits the next morning's dispatch beside the Old Prince Rupert Station.....  The current service picks up and drops off 1 mile east (south) next to the BC Ferry terminal.

A closer shot..... Hooked up to Shore Power.....

Only 3 car lengths behind this train is the current western end of steel.  It once went about 1 mile further, but has since been ripped up.....

Here is the Old Station in Prince Rupert.  Me thinks its' seen better days.

The station was moved as a convenience to the Ferry Connections and cost cutting.

No. 195 leaving Calgary with RDC1 6147, Sept. 7, 1984.  This unit started out as CP RDC2 9100, was rebuilt to an "RDC5", #9307, went to VIA in 1982, was rebuilt as 6147 the next year, and eventually went to Cuba.  It was rebuilt with the smaller "phase 2" cab windows (at this end at least) but kept the larger "phase 1" centre window.

This is what inter-city passenger service between Alberta's two largest cities looked like in 1984.  Better than what they have now.

Winnipeg Union Station, Sept. 6, 1984.  No. 3, the "Panorama", is waiting to leave behind FP9 6512; that's no. 1 tucked under the trainshed behind FP7 6550.
