Waddington Road crossing is getting replaced on June 18 - notices are up stating the rail crossing is closed that day.

Today, while I was briefly in the Duncan Wally World parking lot, noticed a SVI MOW crew working on the tracks. Didn't get out of the vehicle to take a closer look at the work but they were definitely pounding spikes into ties. They had the yellow high rail picker truck, white crew van and a small yellow MOW vehicle with them. Perhaps they replaced some ties?

Since Victoria City Council decided to remove the Johnson Street rail bridge the train will no longer enter the downtown. This shortens the rail line by one-third-of-a-mile (markers are STILL set in miles) and this photo reflects this change. The sign has been moved 500 metres northwest up the track. Maplebank Rd. can be seen in the distance.

It would be cheaper for the ICF to not change anything at all.......

I agree with you, if the tracks are ever extended back into town, you have to redo all the mileages once again, just start the mileage where the tracks are cut 0.3 mile

New (replacement) siding in View Royal just north of Halliwell Rd. crossing. This picture is looking towards town.

The end of the siding (for now), just north of the last photo location.

I'm guessing that the funding for the new siding is coming from money allotted for the E&N trail, since the old siding had to be removed to make way for the bike path.

It's amazing how when funds are tied to bike paths, etc. how quickly rails can get relaid. (Yeah, I'm being cynical.)

Today while cycling the all new E+N Rail Trail section between Hallowell and MP4 I took a photo of the all new train bridge, rails, ties and ballast on the E&N Railway.

A new crossing package is going in on Devonshire Road in Esquimalt.   Brand new crossing arms, LED signal lights with multiple heads, the whole works.   Wonder if they will ever lower for a train?

Why, Dennis-don't you know we have to keep our bicycle enthusiast overlords appeased or suffer dire consequenses?

You know like actually spending money on things that make sense?

Could be worse. At least they aren't ripping up the tracks.

It is my understanding the upgrades would be completed before the trains started operating again.
Bill
P.S. The week of November 17th 2013 saw the completion of the E&N xings at Hutchinson Ave. and Intervale Ave. (off Colville Rd in Esquimalt)

Hello everyone.

New to the forum.

Just wondering if any news on the rail upgrades?

A story was on Check news a couple of weeks ago and they said the negotiations are progressing well acording to the foundation.

I am wondering if any funds are being used to upgrade the line yet or if everything is still on hold?

Get used to it but the only money that will be spent on the E & N will be for bicycle trails as that is the only wheeled objects that city councilors can fathom.
