according to the rail crew ,the crossing in union bay was paid for by the ministry of highways and most of the crossings being upgraded are paid for by either the citys or reginal districts, and the railway is paid for this service. since the railway was there before most of the roads the citys ect are responsible to maintain the crossings.that explains why it is such a hog podge of work up and down the line.

Finally action on the north end. a refreshed crossing in union bay on Mckay road.they installed a new the crossing using 125 lb rail that joined the 85 lb rail.the crew was heading up to mile 132 to even and repair track that was up set by construction of a new subdivision

I would suspect that the rail section is 115 lb/yd.  There is no current 125 lb/yd section.

Yes, the ties are wood.  You can see the tie plates on them.

Very interesting flangeway filler.

I sent my E&N funding support letter today as suggested by ICF BoD.
Here's the comma delineated list used to setup a Shaw.mail email Group: ssantarossa@crd.bc.ca, administration@comoxvalleyrd.ca, cvrd@cvrd.bc.ca, corpsrv@rdn.bc.ca, stanhope@rdn.bc.ca, mayor@qualicumbeach.com, nanaimo@jameslunneymp.ca, islandrail@shaw.ca, mailbox@acrd.bc.ca,
These emails were taken from the email list provided by ICF. Posted here for those interested (others may ignore). Logic dictates without money no rail upgrades will be completed.

saw the 2 bigger high rails headed north to Nanaimo on the highway this afternoon - so they are working on something i guess down that way.

Also i noticed a large piece of rail that has been dropped off just south of the Waddington Road crossing in Nanaimo

The rails have been lifted, only the south switch remains.
Funny how the trails seem to get priority but the railway remains in limbo.
I have also heard the ICF gets no revenue from the trails from their use on the rail corridor.
Questions should be raised why the siding was pulled, and who made the decisions to approve the removal.

Stopped by the Esquimalt siding on my way home from work today to have a look, unfortunately only the south switch remains and I'm sure it'll be gone next. I don't know why they had to remove the whole siding as the bike path already went around it.

Here's some crappy cell phone pics:

One of the strongest lobby groups in BC and they continually get their own way and usually on the backs of the taxpayer. They want to share the road without sharing a single dime of the costs. The ICF is being sold down the tubes by some and they think they are doing the proper thing.

The E&N Intercity Rail Pilot Assesment prepared by the ICF and BC Transit specifically mentioned Esqimalt siding as being required for efficient movement of commuter trains. So what the hell is going on if on one hand we are told of the E&N's glowing potential as a people mover and on the other, they rip out a supposedly important passing siding ? My confidence in the E&N's leadership ebbs and flows at the best of times and right now, its low tide.

Rumor has it they will be putting a siding somewhere between Lampson st and Wilson st for passing.  I believe there use to be one there.

Wasnt the North switch already removed in 2010 when the bridge was replaced at the North end of the siding?

Considering a couple RDCs only need a few hundred feet of siding to pass, there are a number of other locations to put one in place...

It just seems like a waste of resources to pick up and move a siding a mile down the line.  I'd like to know more to the story, maybe the bicycle lobby group paid to have it moved

Maybe they needed the scrap value of the steel to keep the doors open another couple weeks.

Don't forget SVI is under contract, they cannot walk away.  Plus they have signed a new 25 year $70 million contract for the Mainline hinging on the approval RD funding.
