Did the condition of the ties and roadbed take a nosedive north of that point?

No.  It still has the same looks at least up to Green Lake trestle.  I've just never seen a demarcation so obvious like that.  Could be nothing, in which case  management at SR/VI is having a good chuckle at my expense. ☺

That is the beginning of the spur that used to drop down into the shipyard. There are still rails in the ground in the shipyard, and the main walkway from the back gate off Maplebank down into the yard was the route of the spur. A little further south would have been the switch for Superior Propane, but that's long gone...the Wellness Center sits there now.

They removed the south switch that once lead to the scale house recently.  Several clean ties and the ballast smoothed out.  There has been some clean up of the ballast around the south end of the yard too.  This probably explains the presence of some mow equipment parked next to the inspection pit. (Sorry for pic quality, phones take lousy pics and resizing them decimates it further).

Here's an old shot of the dockyard switch when it was newly (briefly) reinstalled and the spur cleared around 2000, when they wanted to service the Budd Cars down at the drydock instead of in the roundhouse. That plan never came to fruition and the switch was re-removed shortly afterwards. That's the only time anything ran on that spur since the early 1980s, was some MOW equipment in 2000.
