Tell me I'm wrong here but it appears this Craigflower Pump Station remedial work along side the E&N Railway tracks at the Four-Mile Bridge is in fact undermining the railbed.

According to the ICF website, ties are being replaced at the Superior Propane spur this week in Nanaimo.

The track has been repaired near Burnett xing (Palmer) and rumour has it a train used the track near Goldstream (MP10) tonight at 6:30p.m. We didn't see it but heard a whistle.

The problem is just replacing ties does nothing if the ballast isn't up to standards.

The southbound lanes at the Bowen Rd crossing have nice smooth asphalt and the black plastic crossing material removed. Judging by the tie-puller parked nearby on the old Madill spur I assume some rotting ties were replaced. The northbound side of the crossing remain untouched and the left turn lane sports a miniature version of the Grand Canyon located between the rails. It also appears the Wellington Rd crossing just up the line has been redone recently. Nice smooth surface and clean alignment.

Part 2 of Bowen Road would be tonight - should be underway in the next hour I would think. EDIT: Looks like they called it on account of the weather - I don't blame 'em lol

Since early July the grade crossing lights and arm on the north side of the Northfield Rd. crossing in Nanaimo have been mangled. It appears a truck swerved into it or side swiped it, it's leaning over, the lights are twisted and the crossing arm lay on the ground. I saw crews removing it on the morning of July 29th. I find it curious that for one of the busiest intersections, the safety device still has not been replaced.

Word from in the City of Nanaimo is that the Truck that did it was reported, ICBC takes care of it in this case. Takes time to get the parts ordered unfortunately.

Not significant, but worth mentioning if it hasn't been all ready. Was working near the Parksville industrial park and noticed that the rails for the spur into the park property have been ripped out and pilled on the ROW. The switch was previously removed years ago. There is a new industrial building going up on the property that had the spur. National Silicates' spur is still operable for the record.

This is not a tread to talk about where the work should start or how the funds will be spent or complaining about this and that ..There is already a spot for that here! NO need for more!..Just positive information to pass on to all of us to show case the rebuilding of a great railway! Keep it to the point, post pics, and track the progress! |

There seems to be some sort of work going on between Maplebank Rd and Admirals Road, along the water side of the tracks behind the Victoria Shipyard parking lot. Anyone know what's going on? The E&N rail trail is complete along there, on the land side of the track.

Was told this past friday that supposedly a small section of track just north of the Duncan station have been pulled up but unable to verify the actual extent and reason. Also saw this in the paper today.

I sincerely hope that this doesn't represent money being thrown away, along with all those crossing improvements that were done between this spot and the yard.

This is located a couple hundred metres north of the switch at Wellington siding. New end of track?
