Southbound 52 passes the Esquimalt siding on a humid June evening. The bulkhead flat has been unloaded of its bricks that were orered by Slegg Lumber. The Northbound frieght (#51) will pick it up the following morning on the way back to Nanaimo...

Hey Moka,

It's a  HO scale 16 by 9 shelf layout based on the Vic sub from Stokett down to victoria. It's fully operational, but only the Esquilmalt section has somewhat completed scenery, Langford is next....

It's my first layout, so work is proceding rather slow, plus the room it's in has a dual use as a practice space for my hardcore band, and yes, I'm not spared any ribbing from my band mates on how a "toy train" isn't punk...

cool,man.. I  was thinkin about  modeling the langford section myself... shelf style..  small staging areas on both ends... I d  include the propane dealer  and  have the locals drop cars on the  siding for various customers as  I used to see right up untill the early 90s..  shoot.. i d  even like to model the old  mr mikes steakhouse that was by the intersection!

Thanks
It's my first layout, so I'm learning alot of things the hard way. I'm currently working on the scenery for Langford, the section of Station road that includes the langford siding, Van Isle moulding and ICG. Sinse I only have 9 feet to model this particular section I've had to compress things a fair bit. I'll post a few pics of this area soon. Until then, here's a shot of two GP 35's passing some dust control tankers, "somewhere on the E&N"

Great shots.  You are really capturing the feel of it.

I'm currently starting my N scale E&N, beginning with the street trackage on Store St in Victoria including some of the Albion yard, ICG propane, Capital Iron, the VIA station and the Johnson St Bridge (which I have to scratch build - eek).  I'm using traction girder rail for the street trackage and code 40 for anything with ties.  Rails are laid on styrene as of now and I'm soldering frogs for the turnouts.  When it's all mounted on the benchwork (in Jan i hope) I 'll post some shots.

I thought i'd show my attempt at building a yard that resembles Store street. Things are missing because of space (most notably Garden city) and because i built the yard mostly from track i had laying around. I hope you like it!

Thanks for the compliments  .Craigolio, I look forward to seeing some shots from your layout. It's nice to see others who are modeling parts of the E&N, especially Store street, an area that I'd love to model but don't have the neccesary skills or especially the patience to pull off as yet.

CN 7303, love the switcher! Does your yard operate? i think most of the fun in Store st layout would be duplicating all the wierd switch moves they must have pulled off back in the day.

I've been doing more work on the langford part of my layout, as well as some Cobble Hills areas, so I thought i'd post a few more pics if anyone's interested.

A photographer I am not, so don't expect any calender crops anytime soon.

Southbound through Langford, taken just north of where Phipps rd meets Station rd. In reality the Langford siding does not extend up this far but due to space limitations i had to compromise. Those familar with the area will note the gravel cut through that crossed the tracks over to Peatt rd, I used to cross this on the way to school one way as a kid and cross over the other way to go drink beer in the gravel pit as a teenager.

This photo shows the northern end of station rd, where the Van Isle moulding mill and ICG Propane were located. Once again, space limitations have caused me to put Van Isle's spur off the Langford siding, when in reality it was about 100 yards are so north of the north siding switch and the spur ran directly off the mainline. Oh well, the show must go on

CroftonSpur88: Your layout is really coming along, looks great! Are you going to be able to fit in the Vic Ply complex? Did I see one of the famous E&N boxcars in 1 of those pics?

CN703: Thats going to be pretty sweet when you get it finished, keep us updated as you go along!

Thanks Vicguy, I've managed  to fit in a portion of it, I still need to add alot of details and come up with some better color and weathering for it. I've used some of your photo's as guide and my imagination and (fading ) memory in others, so it's still definently a work in progress.

CroftonSpur88: Yes it is operational. I too also love the switcher, if i'd been in my right mind I would have bought all three road numbers when i had the chance.

Vicguy: Thanks! I think i managed to capture the general Idea of the Albion yard, even though it's completely backwards.

My biggest headache is the space available to me (8'x2' L) I want to get in as much of Store Street as i can, but it doesnt seem to be working out. I don't have any room for staging so the back half of my L might end up as staging for the yard. I'll put up a picture later of the back half of the Layout and see what you guys can make of it.

My goodness guys your both doing really well and getting the feel of it for sure.  Making compromises on a model is an ongoing problem for everyone I think.  We are busy taking our layout down at the moment as we are getting ready to put the house on the market.  We hope to get a new one up as soon as we get into the new house.  In our house its a battle as to which we run steam (hers) and shay's and diesels (mine).  Keep up the goood work both of you.
