Thanks for sharing Jamie. I remember about that time there was a flat paved pad where me my dad and brothers would ride bikes. It was pretty much surrounded by piles of broken up concrete. This might have been very early 90s though...but could have been late 80s.

You don't happen to have any pictures of the goings-on behind the warehouses between Herward and Devonshire road in your collection by chance, do you?

Finally! A shot of some freight action behind these warehouses!

It looks to me like the train is right in front of what was standard furniture, with what was the safeway warehouse on the right. Malkins would be the next warehouse further to the right.

The freight must have left the yard with the boxcar on the point if they were northbound, something that I've heard mentioned on the board in the past.

Do you recall if Malkin making use of the track that ran straight into the building at this time?

Thanks for this!

The boxcar left the yard on the front of the lead engine, I saw this a few times back in the day. As far as the Malkin spur goes, I can't recall how much,or if any business was still occurring on that spur. on Dec 13th, 2017, 1:23am, MinionII wrote:       (Click here for original message)

I should have said Kelly Douglas, as I believe the Malkin warehouse became the Kelley Douglas warehouse.  The spur that ran along the back of the Safeway warehouse continued on right through a large door and into the Kelly Douglas warehouse. The warehouse is now the Real Canadian Wholesale Store. One day I'll see if that corner of the warehouse is accessible from inside and see if the rails are still there...

Nice shots Jamie.

Do you happen to know the track layout for the mill during this era? Was it just a single spur?

It was just a single spur in it's last years, although I'm sure that back in the day when logs were delivered by rail, there had to be more.

Thanks for these nice shots. Just a little info from tid bits I have kept over the years along with collected video. Just the west leg of the wye and the siding remained at the time of these photos. There was a lot more track and another industry at the tail of the Wye at least as far back as August 8, 1960 when the attached drawing was made. The Empire Cannery (always wondered what the guys in white helmets got fed) used to be served off the same piece of track as the mill which they cut and pasted in Thetis Cove due to space limitations in the drawing.

Hey I just noticed something about this image...

The pacman on the trailing unit appears to be eating a switch target...

Could that possible be the head of the switch for the 'rose fuel spur' in the attached map?

The vertically oriented street in the image is Lampson Street.

Unfortunately not, CP's GP35s had the fire extinguisher decal in the Pacman logo and that is what you are seeing.

I scrolled through some roster shots and indeed, you are correct.

And I was all excited about it too...

Ah well. Someone out there must have a picture of this spur...
