Six of us had a great weekend on Donner Pass with a lot of train traffic.  We were treated to Amtrak Heritage #66, 156 at Sacramento and 1982 Heritage at Roseville Friday evening.  We also got to see one of the new ECS-64 (603)unit on eastbound #6.

Donner Pass is good railroading territory. We went over it in October, 2006, westbound on CalZephyr. Had to wait at the east portal of the summit tunnel for the east-bound CZ to come through, as there was a freight with engine trouble  at the west portal so it was essentially single track and only place to make the meet was where we were.

True, the SP pulled the Westbound # 2 track out in two places including the climb at Eder Westbound tracks which used the snow sheds to Tunnel 41, the long tunnel.  The other place they pulled the double tracks was from Switch 9 to Shed 10.  Both single track locations are fairly short but create delays for the railroad, but that is actually great for us taking pictures.  We get to catch up with trains since some will be delayed.
