How about something new? UP #8110, a C45AH, ready to ship out of Erie, PA on 8/15/13. So where will this get on UP rails?

CSX to Chicago and onto UP rails is my guess.

To keep with the theme, here's ex. CNW 8828 now UP 6730 on a empty Westbound coal train going back to the Powder River Basin. Captured with my phone while going at least 45mph. Result: Good.

Should be seeing dirtwork for the Calif HSR along here very soon.  Piers for Fresno River bridge well under way.

There's little patches of progress here and there. The route they chose baffles me, instead of following the rather wide UPRR R.O.W. it looks like a 5 year old took a crayon, scribbled over a map, and a civil engineer gave the thumbs up. Are you out this way on that project?

I haven't ventured out trackside in quite some time, and I made it a point to get out last Saturday for a bit. After sitting at Calwa interlocking and seeing several BNSF trains pass through, a UP mixed freight came through north with the WP heritage unit on, and I thought it would be interesting to chase it north, something I've never done on in my few years here.

Seen here passing through Calwa interlocking, I hadn't planned on pulling out the camera that day, but heritage units are few and far between here.

While I had intended on getting a shot of this train through downtown Fresno, high speed rail construction made it less than appealing, even with a SJVR local coming out behind it at Ventura St. I headed farther north and found a decent spot off Hwy 99 to catch it. It's quite common for motive power here in the valley to be filthy from service over Donner Pass or Tehachapi.

The heritage unit mixed freight highballing a southbound mixed freight. This was the farthest I would chase this train, as when I was going north on Hwy 99 I saw the Madera local passing over the highway on an industrial lead light engine and figured it would be heading back to Fresno soon.

I've always enjoyed unit grain trains, there's always a good mix of heritage cars. A non patched / tagged CNW car is getting hard to find anymore, especially in California. Any car left sitting more than a minute gets the west coast Krylon bath.

After the northbound grain train cleared the south siding switch, 3 EMD's lead the southbound toward Fresno, with 2 more trains stacked up behind it.
