I spent a day back in 1983 on the west side of Toronto Union Station, watching an incredible parade.  A big part of it was GO Transit transit.
Wondering about GO 800, led by a GP40.  Looks like an F7B, but may be a rebuild.  Does anyone have info on what it was at the time and/or what railroad the unit was built for?

Keep the Toronto pix coming Bob. That was the place to be back then. I hope you have some shots of the Turbo btw...or those orange CN rs-18's on the Via tempo trains.

Those former b units came from the BN. I think thats one of those stretched GP 40s attached to the b unit. Those b units were called APU's (auxilliary power units) and held a 600 kw Head end power generator driven by a detroit diesel. the traction motors were removed as well. they just provided electric power for the coach sets.

Cheers
