Railroad Tycoon II Gold Campaign Crashing

When running the Railroad Tycoon II "Classic" campaigns, I can finish all the way up to and including The Orient Express campaign. The next campaign is Knitting With Iron. When I start that campaign, the  introductory video plays but when that finishes, the game shuts down and Windows offers to find a solution, which of course it never does.

I know there are several patches available but many of those seem to have their own issues as well. Which would fix my issue without creating others?

A. The game is run in Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit in "compatibility mode".

B. Railroad Tycoon II Gold Edition with a ton of extra maps installed.

C. NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 video card with latest drivers.

Thanks for any help with this.
