Time to start up some chatter on the upcoming RailFest, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 30 and 31.  We are looking into ways to extend some of the excitement, and it isn't easy.  The media day on Friday last year was exciting for the visitors, but there really wasn't much as far as media or media coverage.  We did get a lot of Facebook buzz, and we hope to expand upon this.
There is talk on what can be done on Monday, Labor Day.  Attendance is usually okay, but it is also time for many to get back to school. Also,  a lot of the park staff is off on Monday, since they work the weekend.
Last year's expansion to the Iron Furnaces was a great idea, but not much activity going on there made it feel like a dead end instead of an extension of the Fest.

Anyway, the railroads and preservation groups are being contacted on who may want to participate.  We plan to bring back the live steamer modeling people and expand the track speeder activity.

It looks like the Sequestration from last year's annual federal budget is not a factor this year, so Amtrak is still interested in attending for 2014.

There will be photo runbys when we  run the excursions to Moscow.  That station seems to have the ideal spacing for a dynamic shot. Last year's train also showed that even a high hood GP9 can put on a good show.
More details will come as they develop.

Well I got there on Saturday and spent the day walking around with my son and a friend. We came to work on the F3B 664b but couldn't because it was paired with the A unit 664 and doing the caboose rides, same as last year.

We went on the walking tour of the park with stops here and there, with the main tour location being the old DL&W Tower and a walk through it. The Tour was lead by the Park Historian Pat McKnight. Pat is a man who loves his job. Every day he get to share what he knows with other people. In the photo is surrounded by us rail fans tell us about this to me a wonderful place. I enjoyed the tour. It was well lead.

There is this post and 4 more on the tower because I can't put more than 1 photo in per post.
Tower with railfan surrounding Pat as he give us the History of not just the tower but the surrounding complex of buildings.

If you visit here don't forget to see the HO scale diorama of this Lackawanna engine facility in its heyday of steam power. The facility is well represented with a great collection of DL&W steam and building models.
