I figured I would start a centralized thread for the 565 project instead of creating new threads for every update. Speaking of updates, whats the current status of the cosmetic restoration?

Hi NKP759fan. On Jan. 31, the group is planning to do the next level of work, making a pin for the pony truck to connect with the frame. It might not sound glamorous, but you know there is a lot of grit to go through before you get to glamour. Depending on how many show up, they may do more work.

Hi everyone,   I got up there yesterday but due to some work issues I was the only one there.  So I helped set the wheels and frame for #26.   I learned alot, we will have to do this also when we go to install the #1 driver journal boxes.  In the afternoon I was able to get on 565 and installed the tapered bolts for the crosstie bracket for the radius arm.  I had to ream the holes bigger and just have 2 more to install.
With all the work on the #26, most of the milling machines are being used so I couldn't make the hangar brackets either.  We are going to get the center pin done soon and then we have some measurements to do to make sure the radius arm hole is correctly bored and drilled.  The pilot truck will be broken down, sandblasted, primed and then painted before the big day of installing it.

Frank, we are finishing up the pilot truck for installation.  Just a few more items to make/fix and it's ready.  We started out with really just the frame and wheel set.  All new parts needed to be made for it.  It's been a long process but it's getting there.

Well I hope your new front truck tracks properly and doesn't derail when in use. Is there a lot left to do still.

It is ashame that this projected was halted,It seemed there was a great group
of people working, and what bothers me is why did they let them get this far
with a rare piece of history, then just stop them from working on it,atleast its
indoors

Well afbonne and cnj1524 I got back from Steamtown last night. I took this photo and all looks the same as in August. Sorry about whatever problems that have occurred. This project so near to completion and stalled is a tragedy.

Well I took a look at 565 today and she looks very forlorn. Still looks like nothing else has been done. At least 26 can steam up.

On March 5 2016 I was at Steamtown again and here is DL&W 565, same as before. No change.
