Here is the link for the RailFest initial information and the poster, which you can save as a .pdf file.
There will still be excursions to Moscow on the Saturday and Sunday, and visiting guests.
With no Amtrak anniversary train,  what do you think might be an unusual addition to the events this year?  Discuss...

Here's an idea I'd like to put into the pot for consideration......

A photo charter on the line south of Moscow so as not to interfere with the other activities.

Two trains: Train one is the two Reading FP7's with a short string of passenger cars. The coaches are to only be CNJ cars. Train two is the CNJ RS3 with a small cut of vintage freight cars. Run the freight ahead of the passenger train. Set up numerous runbys with first the freight going past, then the passenger train. This would make set up as well as unloading and load up simple.

Just a thought...

Not a bad idea, whether as part of Railfest or not.  I know the park prefers action within the park boundary.  There are quite a few sidings along the way. I am not sure how busy they are, but that is a neat idea.

My biggest guess to which units visit would be the CNJ and the DL&W

Big one here. Is NKP 765 being brought in by Norfolk Southern as one of the peices of Rolling Stock. With NS sending her down the Harrisburg Subdivision August 18-19 765 is not scheduled for more NS Employee runs until the weekend after Labor Day.  Is there a chance?

Big doubts on that. 765 can't be "brought in by NS as one of the pieces of rolling stock." She's not theirs to bring.

I had heard that the Reading FP7s are going to be leaving the Steamtown property sometime soon. I don't beleive they were even operated in 2011. I know they sat on display during Railfest 2011.

PRR460, where will the FP7s go next?  It is a shame that extra motive power at the park wasn't put to use last year, especially since the Reading units were expected to be the mainline power past Moscow.  Only by chance and aggressive work on the F3s by their groups were they available to take the place of the FP7s or else the season would have sunk.
It would be nice the they could stay around a little longer and have a farewell party during RailFest.  But that is probably too much to ask.

I believe that they will be going down to the Reading Railroad Heritage Museum in Hamburg

Which likely means once there, they probably won't turn a wheel for quite some time

I heard that they may be going back to Strasburg. But that's just what I heard from a Park Ranger.

I can indeed confirm the 765 will NOT be in Scranton for Railfest. Heading back to Fort Wayne after the NS trips in Harrisburg.

It was nice thinking about a visit from 765, though.  The Reading FP7s will stick around for a while. This past Sunday, May 27 they were placed on the entrance track with the freight cars that had been displayed there since last fall.
