Ahh the good times from the summer of 2002.  2317 runs by with Steamtowns Lackawanna Caboose as 3254 gets ready for the daily trip to Moscow. This was after they did some work on 2317 and she wasnt allowed to leave the yard yet. I beleive it was wheel work.  Maybe she was awaiting it.  I dont really remember!!!

Welcome to the forums, LegendZ26!

Those are some nice shots you've got there! I can't wait 'till both the 3254 and 2317 are ready to pound iron through the mountains this season!

Maybe we'll see some double-headers?

Thanks for posting those,
Joe...

(Oh, and by-the-way... Are you sure that was Summer 2002? I'm pretty sure that was Summer 2004 based on your description of it.)

Thanx for the welcome Joe.  Its good to be around people who enjoy this as much as me and there are so many people here who have alot of good info to share. Now for the description of my pic.  I am probably wrong about whatever the reason was the 2317 couldnt leave the yard, or maybe there was no reason. Whatever the case, she was doing the yard shuttles with the Lackawanna Caboose. Now the pic was defeniteley taken in 2002 becuase this was the last steam I saw before I left for Basic Training in the Army. I die hard always has to get a little bit of that in his system Before he has to part with his hobby for a while. haha But the pic itself is 2002, however I am not sure about what was all up with 2317.  Note the Beaver logo, and the B.C Obrien signature, under the cab isnt present either. However on the Firemans side it is still present. Interesting.

Here are the two Canadian Antiques Next to each other in 2002. Was a fun day and I had no idea that both Steamers would be out and about that day.  Hope to see it again in the future. Along with 26 doing the yard duties!!

Here is 3254 approaching the Steamtown Loading PLatform in October 2006.  Note the DL ex D&H RS3 (operable) and the ex NYC RS32 on the left. Local and historic peices of rolling stock as well.

3254 from a Todlers point of view.  I think this shot just shows how big 3254 really is.  Even though she isnt that big by some camparisons.  Mighty fine peice of equipment if u ask me.  Sounds great too!!!!

Hi, Legend:
I have the answer for you.  In late December, 2000, 2317 was leaving the roundhouse for normal yard operations, when she derailed right outside the shop building.  After rerailing her, the verdict was that the weight of the engine crunched her pony truck up horribly.  All of 2001 and half of 2002 was spent repairing the truck frame, the bearings, wheels and such to make her road worthy again.
That down time was also used to conduct the two year firebox work and otherwise bring her up to code under the new specs.  She came out of a 5year rebuild in 1998, and hasn't gone in for her 1472 day inspection (the replacement of the 5 year) yet.  She is "street legal" now, but will come down for boiler tube work and the other assorted things in 2008.
When you took those photos, she had just come back into service (July), and was limited in the yard until RailExpo 2002, when she double headed with 3254.  This was the last RailExpo, too. She ran most excursions in late 2002, and was our solo steamer in 2003.  She was "grounded" to yard service in 2004 and 05, with current repairs on-going since 2006.

#2317 made her first true voyage in 3 years over the DL Main, on May 19th, 2007. Here, 2317 stands ready, about an hour before departure.

We then headed of to Myrtle St. crossing. #2317 came thundering around the curve and stormed through the crossing. This was the best runby I've ever seen on any railroad. I now know why she is called "Pocono Thunder".
