Two of Five:
Canadian Pacific 4-4-4 #2929, a real rare steam locomotive of a even rarer wheel arraignment type, The Reading Type.
* In 1915 the Philadelphia and Reading built 4 of these to run fast and compete against the PRR E6 Atlantics. The Reading gave these 4, 4-4-4 types the designation of C1 class. They were very fast, but at the cost of weight. Built to be of lighter weight with revolutionary style front and rear trucks. The trucks were identical and interchangeable. Something unheard of before this. Though fast they were unstable in high speed turns on curved track. All were later rebuilt into Atlantic types with rear cabs. The Reading P7 class.
* These successful 4-4-4 locos of the CPRR have only a couple of their class saved. The Canadians called the 1936 4-4-4s the Jubilee Type. The B&O built one in 1935 and in was named The "Lady Baltimore" and they called it the Baltic class.  I would have to say that 1915 predates the other two by many years.

Before I left to go home yesterday I took a few photos of The sleeping Steamtown. Quietly awaiting the spring and the opening of the 2016 season of activities. I walked up to the corner of the Back shop to look at the Cab of 3713. Took a photo of it and didn't stop.
* Looking out to the old fuel storage tank and the passenger cars along with the old 4-6-0 awaiting a better day with the hope of a total restoration. One that would bring it back to life, steamed up doing what it was made to do. Safely  taking people, Dads and Mom's and Kid's here and there. Experiencing travel as it was in the days of steam.

If you look carefully at the video at 3:19 as the last car passes by your camera, count to the fourth window and you can see my tripod sticking out the window. I used a small sports camcorder with an external lens to videotape from that angle. It came out pretty neat. The camera is normally mounted to a helmet for sports such as skiing. I only had it out about 9 inches since I didn't want any branches to grab it and wipe it out. It does have a protective cover so it it did get smacked (which it has) it won't hurt the lens. Here is a picture of the camera when we took the East Stroudsburg excursion. I didn't have my tripod so this was the best I could do with the camera.

Is this you per chance? I took this shot from inside as we passed by. The trip went very well and was sold out. Perhaps with two sold out excursions Steamtown will plan more. I will be adding a page to my site of this excursion in the next few days. I used my sports camcorder to shoot video looking outside the window of the passenger car. It came out neat.

WOW!!!!  WHAT A TRIP!!!

Steamtown was AWESOME! I was amazed...  trully...  they run a terrifric opperation of big time steam! 2317 was a MONSTER! She pulled unassisted both ways! And what a show she put on. 514 was out and running the 30 minute trips, and the trolley was in action.

I was trully amazed that steamtown lets you go right intot he engine house while they are steaming up the engine and getting her ready to come out. Watching the smoke from the stack at eye lever was great and to feel the heat radiating off the beast was wonderfull. And what a site it was when the pulled her out. GREAT SHOW!

I think the only downfall of the trip was that a lady may havepassed away while at Toby. I wasnt near bye,  but my fiance told me an elderly lady(80ish) collapsed inside toby and fell and cracker her head on the ground. It was inside where they were making the hot dogs i think .. so im not sure if it was a passenger or a volunteer at toby...  so,  that was a bit of a downer, and i hope that maybe she ended up ok.

Besides that the trip was great. They really move her down the line at a good pace and the nay aug tunner was terrific! 1 day in steamtown was deffinatly not enough....  next time i will plan on a 2 day trip. There was just so much in the museum area that i didnt even get to look at.

Another really awesome thing that happened was an elderly lady (round 75) came up to me, my wife, and my son with a old whistle. She said it was her husbands grandfathers whistle from when he worken on the railroad and she wanted my son to have it!  HOW COOL AND NICE WAS THAT!  Im gonna post a picture of it on the internet to see if i can find out if its authentic or not. The only thing stamped on it is "japan" .....  but if it is authentic what a neat RR artifact with a great story to go with it!

2317is a monster.  Very big and impressive locomotive.  For those of you who haven't seen her run on the main you don't know what you're missing, it is a truely impressive sight (and sound!!)  This engine has one of the loudest exhausts I have ever heard on a steam locomotive.  It falls in my "fab five"...

I rode the May 27th excursion to Moscow...quite an impressive run!  I think that it is safe to say that Steamtown is (finally) recovering from the 2004-2005 slump year by year.

This was different, instead of using their diesel locomotive they had DL #2035 provide the diesel assist. As with other excursions the steam engine is directly behind this facing backwards as there is no WYE here.

The station at Cresco. We stopped here for an hour.

The excursion to East Stroudsburg was great. We stopped at Tobyhanna so they could check out #2317 to make sure everything was ok. We then stopped at Cresco for an hour for the station dedication and to pick up more passengers for the trip. After arriving in East Stroudsburg we had a two hour layover which allowed plenty of time to eat and drink. The East Stroudsburg Railroad tower society was giving tours of the tower which they want to restore.

The excursion was sold out and the weather turned out good for the day. Next month is the Delaware water Gap excursion and I already have tickets!

For my last one, a big thank you goes out to the wonderful crew who put on a spectacular show on this trip. I'll definetly be back to Steamtown many times this year.

Video to come in a few days.
