Thought I would start a N&W #611 thread to remind everybody she will be out and about this spring and summer. Plan a trip to ride and/or see the Queen of Steam.

Starting across the Dan River bridge leaving Danville, VA after making the station stop northbound. I bet the water tower lasts longer then those Southern signals.

Here she is on 4/10/16 at MP 121 after coming out of Lick Log Tunnel (589 feet) west of The Loops. She is about to go into McElroy Tunnel (77 feet). Most won't have the view a few others and I had. It was a bit of a hike and then a climb to get here.

Looks like two diesel boosters - is that correct?

Yes, NS #8099k, a ES-44AC, the Southern heritage unit and Southern #6133, a FP-7 from the NCTM were both on line for both runs.

My wife took this one as the J climbed Christiansburg Grade on 5/7/16. There were no diesels on the runs out of Roanoke. Posted with permission.

611 is a very handsome engine. Besides being very fast and powerful.  Pity we can't set up a factory (BLW or Lima or ALCo return....) and build some for AMTRAK. Just imagine all the AMTRAK schedules covered by new-build Js. Or Santa Fe 3460s (Blue Goose comes again).

Here we have the eastbound run back to Manassas, VA. This view is just north of Marshall, VA and the "J" has her train well in hand as it swings around the curve.
