I caught a glimpse of this engine back in July 2014. It's beautiful, with a coat of glossy black paint and gleaming gold lettering. Of course, I'm kicking myself for not grabbing tons of photos!

1308 has been displayed outdoors literally for as long as I can remember so it's a tribute to those unsung heroes who keep this engine in as good condition as it is. I for one sure wish it could be restored to operating condition--who knows?

This photo shows 1308 as it was in June 1992. It was raining so I just stopped, got out of Dad's car, grabbed this photo and another one, then drove off. I needed two cups of coffee to even get warm that day!

This view shows the engineer's side, looking basically east. That's a former B&O CPL (color-position light) signal, seldom if ever used on C&O.

This view shows the angled cab, tender, and stairway for tours. I think the Collis P. Huntington society gave tours, but I've never been able to take one. Gotta check that off the bucket list someday. Photo is from June 1992 but I don't recall the exact date.
