Indeed it is. One of the few streamlined steam designs that look good.

Don't miss your chance to run #611!

I know it is a little pricy, but the money goes to a good cause. And besides, where else are you going to get the chance to put your hands on a queen?

Absolutely beautiful. We don't get too many opportunities to re-live history.

Just curious, who was the engineer on 611 that day? I remember there was an engineer named Frank (last name Collins?) who orchestrated many of 611's runs in the 80's or so. Regardless, that crew, who helped 611 that day, seemed to have done a great job: not too much smoke, for one thing.

Thanks again for posting a fantastic picture!

The J made a few runs around the Roanoke, VA area over the 4th of July weekend and I was able to catch it at a few places. Here it is eastbound at Montvale, VA on 7/5/15 at 0850Hrs.

Norfolk Southern took the opportunity to tack their car #32 "Research" in the train behind the canteen. Anybody know the results of the testing they did?

The first move of N&W #611 in 2017 was to go from The Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke, VA to The North Carolina Transportation Museum for maintenance and inspection for the coming season. This was accomplished on 1/6/17 as the J, N&W #1407 Storage Mail (AKA Tool Car), VMTX #9647 baggage car and NS #197348 coal hopper ran as NS train #956. Here she is passing the signal at Smothers, MP 212 on the Piedmont Division. This is just south of Galveston, VA at 1102Hrs.
