This long term restoration looking towards operation of this locomotive continues. The NMSL&RHS took ownership of this locomotive in 1999. I was able to see the locomotive in person on 10/5/16. They are in the process of putting it back together.

One of the unique features of this locomotive is the tandem rod arrangement.

They are outfitting the locomotive with a 26L brake system. I would love to be around to see that speed recorder maxed out.

She's a beauty. I sincerely hope the NMSL&RHS is able to complete this project!

I'm thinking they will get the restoration done. Hey, at least they seem to still have all the parts! I just hope they can work out getting the chance to run her some.

If or when she runs I hope it can be on High Iron at track speed!! it would be a sight to behold. Might not have thought this far ahead but was it mentioned who might be pulling the throttle for them??

I heard that the works are close to completition and that it might run already this year. Can anyone confirm it?
Although Im not a fan of Santa Fe Northerns and although we already have an active Santa Fe Northern and although Im a bit tired of all those Northerns in the excursion service business (Hello! There are other wheel arrangements out there too!) I must admit that it will surely be a thrill to see this monster Northern speed through the New Mexico deserts, mountains and plains.
