George - Clyde - All -

In my own recall, and to which you allude, George, there was a large space and room, on the East end of the Main Hall area,
which served as site for welcoming U S O. There were huge numbers of traveling Military (same story over at the GREYHOUND
Station at 12th & New York, NW), it a much appreciated site.

Seems to me, too, that on the East end Mezzanine, and area where one could sit and enjoy a cold beverage, and perhaps a
sandwich or meal...

Henry, a first view in 1992 quite late in the game. By then, the Barbarians had overwhelmed Rome two decades earlier! Marked
as a "no class" crowd. No design tastes at all, and clueless what stations should be. They still have no idea at all. Rather, it is
thought, motivations to make it all look like Trailways Stations in Garden City, KS, Joplin, MO or some damnable Euro inspired
glass palace! (But, oh, they protest. It can be so chic with ferns, an atrium, and related glitz!)

Vern, they ought to give me a budget and leave me to it. I'd hire a GOOD architect to supervise and we'd RESTORE it. Chic? No. A proper railroad station? Yes.

Honestly! There has been little historic perspective with the Station, in its long existence! Other area examples, let's say,
Lincoln, and Jefferson Memorials, the Capitol and examples. They haven't had radical changes of the day to satisfy "pop"
tastes of the moment.

Union Station has not received its worthy and well deserved respect!

Got that right, Vern. Curst pity it is, too.

Here's a closer look at what's in store for Union Station
by Joe Fox http://greatergreaterwashington.org/jfox/ - March 31, 2016

Plans for renovating and rebuilding parts of Union Station are well underway
http://greatergreaterwashington.org/post/30279/union-stations-expansion-could-benefit-cyclists-too/ , the aim being to better connect train, bus,
pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle traffic to accommodate a surge in ridership
over the next 25 years and beyond. On Wednesday, the public got a closer
look at some of the possibilities.

Interesting plans. I recall how the station was nearly destroyed by the renovations or whatever they should be called (vandalism?) for the Bi-centennial Visitor Center, followed by salvation f a sort. Hope this works out well. As  well as the renovation of Denver Union Station apparently has.
