During a January warm up, the Depot looks mysterious in the mist.
Not much activity on the Trail today, but we had a few visitors.

Next session will be Saturday 1/18/2014

Snow again this morning. There was one hardy individual riding a bike
on the Trail in the snow.

We now have a new video display in the Depot. It shows a short
introductory video about the Depot. Stop in and take a look next
Saturday.

Next work session will be Saturday 1/25/2014.

Amherst RR Sociaty Show

The Amherst RR Society will be presentng a grant to the Hopewell Depot
Restoration on Sunday. We will be going there to pick it up. Take a
look at this web site. You might have to click on "Things to do".

http://www.ctnow.com/family/hc-train-show-springfield-20140121,0,4049509.story

It is literally the biggest train show in the east and it takes up four
buildings.

Bright blue sky and sunshine today but cold (8 this morning). There
were only a couple hardy souls on the Rail Trail today and no visitors
at the Depot. The Rail Trail parking lots are plowed out but the Trail
has about a foot of snow on it.

Next Depot open date will be Saturday 2/15/2014.

The snow is piling up around the Depot. On 2/14 we had 22 inches on top
of the foot or so from the last storm. A little more snow today and
more coming on Monday.

The only traffic we saw on the Rail Trail this morning was one guy on
cross country skis with his long legged dog trotting along. The
parking lot was cleared but the Trail is still snow covered.

Our volunteers worked on the new museum display. It will be a table top
model of what the Hopewell Junction yard looked like a hundred years
ago but done in N scale.

Next open session will be Saturday 2/22/2014. (unless we get another two
feet of snow.by then)

We are having a heat wave. The temp got up into the 40's today with
bright sunshine and visitors from the Rail Trail. Today's donations
included three plastic tubs of N scale model RR parts for our diorama
under construction.

"Mr. Conductor" AKA Bernie Rudberg has four railroad talk/slideshows
scheduled in March.

Saturday 3/15 is an all day meeting with an admission charge of $75 at the
Rhinecliff Hotel.
It starts at 9:00 AM and I will be on at 10:00 AM.
Sunday 3/16 is at the Rojan Hist. Soc. in Copake at 2: 00 PM.
Thursday 3/20 is the Red Hook Library Assn. at the Elmendorph Inn in Red
Hook at 6:00 PM.
Saturday 3/22 is NMRA meeting at the Hopewell Jct Community Center at 10:00
AM.

The weather is getting better. Stop around the Depot for a tour and some RR
talk.
We are open Saturdays during the winter.

Most of the snow has melted off the Rail Trail so we had quite a few visitors today. Cloudy in the morning but sunny in the afternoon. Our volunteers made progress on the N scale diorama of the Hopewell Junction train yard.

I finished the fourth RR talk this week at the local NMRA chapter meeting. Now I can slow down a bit for Sunday.

Next open day will be Saturday 3/29.

3/29/2014 With better weather, business is picking up on the Rail
Trail. We had quite a few visitors this morning including a donation of
antique Marx train parts for display.

Our volunteers made progress on the Hopewell yard diorama while the tour
guides handled a number of trips through Hopewell RR history.

Does anybody out there know where we can find an N scale model of a New
Haven RR 2-10-2 Santa Fe locomotive ? We would like to have one for the
diorama even if it does not run. It will be a static display.

Next open session will be Saturday April 5.

5/3/2014 The weather was great and we had a lot of visitors at the
Depot today. Several local crafts people displayed their wares and we
had free food from the Blue Fountain Restaurant. The old car on display
was a 1919 Chevy that looks almost new.

Next Depot open sessions will be tomorrow 5/4 and also on Wednesday
5/7. Stop around and learn a bit about the rich railroad history of
Hopewell Junction.

5/24/2014 Nice weather and more visitors including Owen Thomas, future
engineer. He loves to ring the bell.
Meanwhile our volunteers are building a tender to go with the loco.

We also added interactive push-button lights to the Hopewell Junction
Rail Yard diorama. Come on down a push a few buttons.

Next Depot open sessions will be tomorrow, Sunday 5/25 and Wednesday
5/28.

Beautiful spring weather and lots of visitors on the Rail Trail. One
group met at the Depot with some from Long Island and some from
Pennsylvania. We brought them all up to date on the rich railroad
history of Hopewell Junction.

Meanwhile our volunteers made progress on the coal tender for the
children's locomotive. That little locomotive seems to be popular
with the kids.

Perfect weather brought out many visitors for our monthly Arts and
Crafts Show. Also on display was a restored 1936 Buick which attracted
a lot of attention. We also had 9 vendors showing their wares and free
food from the Blue Fountain Restaurant. Last but not least we had a
musical group with guitar, fiddle and banjo. They entertained with a
variety of train songs. We will do it all again next month.

6/21/2014 Good weather and lots of traffic on the Rail Trail today.
The photo is part of the diorama in the museum section of the Depot. It
is a "Pusher" engine ready to help a long train of coal cars up
Stormville Mountain. These Pushers were based in the yard at Hopewell
Junction.
Click on the photo to enlarge it.

Next Depot open session will be Wednesday 6/25.
