12-19-2012 Work continues on finishing the museum section of the depot.
We now have a new dutch door on the agents office.

We have also started selling the artist prints of the depot

Rumor has it that Santa may stop by the depot on Saturday afternoon.
Stop around and tell him what you want for Christmas.
The conductor will be there as well.

The next work session will be Saturday 12-22-2012.

12-22-2012 This afternoon Santa stopped at our depot with a bag of candy
kanes for the kids. Even some of our volunteers told him what they want
for Christmas.

We decided to hold off the building work over Christmas. The next work
session will be Saturday 12-29-2012. The visitor center will be closed
until 12-29.

Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year !

12/28/2012 We hosted a group of Boy Scouts on Friday morning.

12/29/2012 On a cold, snowy Saturday there were only a few hardy souls
on the Rail Trail. But our intrepid volunteers continued the inside
work. Today it was mostly window trim and building a new ticket window
insert.

The next working session will be Wednesday 2 January 2013.

1/5/2013 The ticket window is beginning to look like it did 100 years
ago sporting a new set of bars and scroll brackets under the shelf.

On a bright sunny day there were a few visitors on the Rail Trail even
with the snow covering (parking lts are cleared).

Next work session wil be Wednesday 1/9/2013.

Saturday 1/19/2013 On a chilly but sunny day the inside work continued.
The main project of the day was a new built-in desk in the west bay
window. We also talked to a Boy Scout planning his Eagle Project for the
depot.

Does anybody out there have a used but working laptop computer to
donate. We could use a couple laptops to power the video diplays we
already have.

The next work session will be Wednesday 1/23/2013

Wednesday 1/23/2013 Cold and sunny today but inside work continued. The
west bay window desk now has drawers, a door and a stained top surface.
After the stain dries we will add a couple coats of poly for a durable
shine.

Next work session will be Saturday 1/26/2013.

Saturday 1/26/2013 A little polyurethane gave the window desk top a
mirror finish.
Some of our antique lanterns have been turned into electric light
fixtures.

Next work session will be Wednesday 1/30/2013.

1/30/2013 The usual indoor work continued on a warm day in January.
The temp got up to 55 today. Cold again tomorrow.

We now have preliminary sketches for the proposed crossing control
tower. The plan is to put rest rooms and vending machines in the
lower level. This will be our next big project when the museum is up and
running. We will need to raise $35,000 or more for that phase of the
work.
 Any sponsors out there ?

The next work session will be Saturday 2 February 2013.

Wednesday 2/20/2013 Work continued on the museum room. Some of our
volunteers spent much of the day cleaning and brushing the pot-belly
stove.
Much of the day was spent in measuring and planning the display panels
for the museum area.

As we move on, we sorely need volunteers to donate:
 - services for graphic design for the interpretive panels.

 - service for printing/mounting/laminating the panels.

 - hardware and design services for interactive video presentations.

 - funds for the above.

After that we will redesign the north waiting room into a true visitor
center.

Next work session will be Saturday 2/23/2013.

2/13/2013 New display panels are being built and added to the museum
section walls. They will show photos, stories and maps of Hopewell
Junction railroading through the years from 1869 t0 2013.

Do you happen to have any Hopewell railroad related items in your
attic ? If so we would love to have them for display or at least to
photograph them for our historical records.

We had a good day today in spite of the rain. Five volunteers showed up
started working on different projects. We have one of the rolling
display cases almost completed and Bud painted all the wall panels two
coats.

The basement room has been converted into a woodworking shop and storage
space.

Saturday 3/2/2013 The weather warmed up a bit today so there a lot of
traffic on the Rail Trail. There were people in the visitor center for
over and hour after normal closing time.
A number of visitors signed up for our E-Mail list.

If you join our group you will get a newsletter with info about what is
happening at the depot.
We also could use some help on our fund raising committee. If you would
like to help out just let us know.

More work was done on the museum display cases and display panels.

The next work session will be Wednesday 3/6/2013.

3/30/2013 On a sunny early taste of spring day we had a lot of foot
traffic on the Rail Trail. Meanwhile our volunteers salvaged a door
scorched by the 1986 arson fire. Also a good bit of the day was spent
cataloging and marking our museum acquisitions to be displayed.

The next working session will be Wednesday 3 April 2013.

4/3/2013 On a sunny but breezy day we continued preparing the museum
displays. One of the donations is a travel trunk which was standard
equipment for world travelers a hundred years ago.

If you are going with us on the CNE spring tour you should be at
Century blvd in Millerton by 8:30 on Sunday 4/7. We will have coffee etc
and distribute guide books before the buses roll at 9:00AM

Next depot work session will be Saturday 4/6.
