8-25-2012 It was a good day for finishing some of the trim strip and working on the interior beadboards. We also got a donation of a set of crossing lights from Fishkill Plains. With a little clean up etc we might get them working.

We also welcomed a new tour guide. She is a Girl Scout and went right to work talking to people from the Rail Trail.

Save the date. I will be doing another railroad talk and slide show on 7 September at the Clinton Historical Society meeting in Clinton Corners (the former Quaker Meeting House). The show will start at 7:30. The public is invited and the subject will be three lost railroads of Dutchess County.

The next Hopewell Depot work session will be Wednesday 8-29-2012.

8-29-2012 It was beautiful blue sky day at the depot today. We had visitors from the Rail Trail and donation of a parcel scale used by the Hopewell Depot agent. We also acquired a signal pole and ladder.

Meanwhile work continued on the inside paneling boards for the museum section. We now have dedication plaques for all thirteen windows.

The next work session will be Saturday 9-1-2012.

This is a reminder to all those considering attending our fund raising dinner dance on October 20. Reservations are due by September 15th. We hope to see many of our friends there at Anthony's in Hopewell Junction. Our guest speaker will be Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro and music will be provided by d.j. Dave Anthony. A five-course meal will be served. Cost is $75. per person. If you have not received an invitation and would like to go, please let me know via email with your snail mail address and we will gladly send you one. BRudberg AT optonline DOT net

9-5-2012 After some morning rain, the day turned out to be beautiful. Work continued on the walls of the agent's office and also on a new deck for the baggage cart.
We now have water bottles with the depot logo for sale for $12.
Next work session will be Saturday 9-8 2012.

Don't forget there will be a railroad slide show and talk at 7:00 PM Friday 9-7-2012 at the Clinton Historical Society meeting. It is open to the public and the subject will be Three Lost Railroads of Dutchess County. The meeting will be at the old Quaker meeting House in Clinton Corners.

9-8-2012 With off and on rain and sunshine, we managed to assemble and bolt down seven new benches on the depot deck.
The first visitors to try the benches were a family from Sweden. They will be heading back home to Sweden next week.

We also had a donation of a candlestick style phone for our museum displays.

The next work session will be Wednesday 9-12-2012.

Next Saturday, 9-15, is East Fishkill Community Day. Our volunteers will be split into three groups to man the depot, man the table at Community Day and pull the baggage cart in the town parade. If you are interested in joining in the fun, let us know.

Most of today's work around the depot was getting ready for East Fishkill Community Day on Saturday. This banner will be in the parade with our baggage cart and yours truly in my conductor's uniform. Rain date is Sunday 9/16.

Our volunteers will be split three ways. One group at the depot, one group at the Community Day tent and the third group will be in the parade. We need any help we can get to cover all the bases on Saturday. If you have some time and want to join the fun just show up at the depot around 11:00 AM Saturday morning.

We will also be reminding people that there is still time to make reservations for our fund raising dinner dance on 20 October at Anthony's catering in Hopewell Junction. For information, call 845 221-9330.

Come on down to Community Day and join the fun.

9-15-2012 We had perfect blue sky weather for the East Fishkill Community Day. Our baggage cart team won a second place trophy in the parade. The tent crew talked to people all day and the donations were generous. We made a few new friends and got a couple new volunteers. Meanwhile the depot crew hosted people from the Rail Trail. It was a fun day for all.

We had a short celebration with a little Champagne for the trophy we won at the East Fishkill Community Day parade. Meanwhile our local lumber company delivered another load of material for the museum walls.

Among our visitors today was a family from Colorado.

9-26-2012 Even on a cloudy drizzly day there were a lot of people on the Rail Trail. Our volunteers finished the bead boards on the museum section walls.

Our friends from Metro-North RR brought us the parts of an old New Haven RR semaphore signal that we might be able to restore with a bit of luck finding more parts.

10-13-2012 It was a chilly but blue skies fall day at the depot. Work continued on the walls of the agent's office and the ticket office. The walls now have a fresh coat of white paint.

There was a lot of traffic on the Rail Trail today including two men on unicycles. Dutchess County has added new benches along the trail. Our walk-in donations today included two railroad lanterns, an 1876 map and a check for $1,000.

On Monday afternoon we will be hosting a cub scout pack.

Don't forget the fund raising dinner dance at Anthony's on 10/20.

Wednesday 10-24 was mainly a day for masking and painting the ticket office and agent's office.

On Thursday the restored agent's roll-top desk arrived from Virginia. The man who restored the desk does furniture restoration work for Colonial Williamsburg. It looks and smells brand new. The desk will be assembled and become the center piece of the agent's office display.

Don't forget the railroad talk at the Pine Plains library at 2:00 PM on Saturday. The public is welcome.

Next work session will be Saturday 10-27 unless the hurricane hits early.

11-3-2012 On a cold and breezy day we had lots of visitors from the Rail Trail while the volunteers worked on finishing the agents office and the ticket office. One group was our local NY 159 Civil Air Patrol. They were a good bunch and asked a lot of good questions.

Next work session will be 11-7-2012.

Wednesday 11-7-2012 With cold wind and snow there was nobody on the Rail Trail today. We did however continue inside work. Todays project was mainly painting the walls of the museum section.

The next work session will be Saturday 11-10 2012.

This is also a reminder about the train show in Poughkeepsie on Sunday 11- 11-2012. The show will be at the Poughkeepsie Civic Center and start at 10:00 AM. It will finish up around 3:00 PM. Admission is $5 or $2 for children under 12.

Hopewell Depot will have our usual table at the show. Stop around and talk a bit.
If you have time to spare, maybe you can help out a bit.

See you on Sunday.

On Saturday 11-10 the Lionel Train set up in our depot attracted a group of children (and adults).
On Sunday 11-11 We had our usual table at the Poughkeepsie Train Show. We talked to a lot of rail fans and sold a few books. It was a good day.
On Monday 11-2 we entertained another group of Cub Scouts. More cubs and Webelos are scheduled for later this month.

The next working session will be Wednesday 11-14.

11-17-2012 We had a lively group of Tiger Cub Scouts at the depot today. Lots of questions.

The painting in the museum section is almost done. When the baseboards and crown molding arrive we will have it just about ready to start on displays etc.

The next work session will be Wednesday 11-21-2012

12-1-2012 Not much traffic on the Rail Trail on a cold December day but
we did get a donation of some historical RR books about Hopewell
Junction and sold a book.

Meanwhile our volunteers kept working on the trim and the brackets for
the ticket window.

Next work session will be Wednesday 12-5-2012.

12-5-2012 Work continues on finishing the museum section interior. There
were also a few visitors from the Rail Trail.

We have tour guides at the depot visitor center two days a week. If
you have some free time, stop by the Rail Trail and depot for some
exercize in the fesh air. We are open from 8:30 AM till about 3:00 PM on
Wednesdays and Saturdays while our volunteers are working. Come on down
and check out what we are doing. The tour guides will fill yoi in about
Hopewell Junction railroad history and how the town got that name.

The next work session will be Saturday 12-8-2012.

12-12-12 Back working on the depot museum section today. We got a
shipment of crown molding and window trim to be painted before
installation.

Does your employer have a matching grant program ? Companies such as
IBM and Stewarts Shop
s have programs to match employee donations with a matching grant. If
you make a donation in 2012 and turn in the paperwork to your employer,
the depot could get the matching grant money.
Check it out. Maybe you and your employer can help restore the
Hopewell Depot.

Our next work session will be Saturday 12-15-2012
