our new switch tower in Hopewell Junction. Thee were speeches by

Depot. A good time was had by all.

The Depot will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 to 4.

It was a beautiful day for a hike on the Rail Trail today. Lots of
visitors for our craft sale.

The new tower restrooms are now open to the public during Rail Trail
hours. That would be from Dawn to dusk depending on the season.

Be sure to save the date for next Saturday , 6/11, when there will be a
"Musical Evening" of Bluegrass, folk and Americana. The music and
festivities will be from 6 to 8 PM. Bring a chair or blanket and join
the fun. Free admission but donations are encouraged. More details in
the attached poster image file.

Rain early in the day kept some people away from the Rail Trail but the
sun came out in the afternoon. It turned out to be a very pleasant
evening for the music. The silent auction brought in some customers.
Judging from the clapping and singing, a good time was had by all. The
band kept paying till 8:30 PM to rousing applause.

Depot will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 to 4.

Beautiful weather today and lots of traffic on the Rail Tral but not
many stopped at the Depot. They seemed to be more interested in the
nice weather. The new restroom facilities in the tower were very
popular.

The attachment photo was taken by a drone camera.

The Depot is open on summer hours on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 to 4.

Perfect weather for the July 4th weekend. Lots of traffic and visitors.

We now have an original New Haven Railroad 48 star flag that flew over
the Depot more than 60 years ago. That flag is out of retirement and on
display on the new switch tower.

The Depot will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 to 4.

Hot weather on the Rail Trail brought lots of visitors to the Depot
looking for a cool drink and a cool spot in the Air Conditioning.

The attached photo is one of our displays. Do you know what theses gold
cups were for ? They are collapsible and fit the leather pocket case.
Stop around to the Depot on Saturday or Sunday and look for them. Our
tour guides can tell you the story. If you can't make it to the Depot,
I will post the story next week.

Depot summer hours are 10 to 4 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Our volunteer project for today was putting a decorative coat of stain
on the Tower stairs.

With nice weather we had quite a few interesting visitors from the Rail
Trail today.

Don't forget the railroad talk/slide show at Dutch's Spirits in Pine
Plains on Monday.
Show starts at 1:00 PM.

Hopewell Depot is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 to 4.

Stop around and do some early Holiday shopping.

Today was a beautiful and successful day at Hopewell Depot. We had
twelve vendors and a lot of customers. This was our best Arts and
Crafts event so far. We are looking forward to next year!

Also, Don't forget.

In the next few weeks employers will be asking their employees to make
pledges for charities via payroll deductions. Don't forget Hopewell
Depot Restoration Corporation when you are choosing a charity for 2017.

at the Blue Fountain Restaurant in Fishkill Plains, New York. The
featured speaker was Ernie Hunt, President of the Catskill Mountain
Railroad. He presented a short history and current status of their
operation.

"Mr Conductor " gave a short history of the Hopewell Depot Restoration

Excellent food, a little wine and good company was enjoyed by all.

In the early days of railroading, before commercial electrical power was
available, the telegraph system was powered by batteries. The glass jar
in last week's photo was a telegraph system battery jar. It would be
filled with an acid solution with metal probes inserted in the holes in
the lid. The entire system ran on very low voltage. Actually a pair of
today's flashlight batteries would work. Stop around to the Hopewell
Depot and check out our telegraph display. It clicks like the ones in
old western movies. You can practice your Morse Code.

The Depot is now on winter hours and will be open Saturdays from 10 to
4.

To all of Bernie Rudburg's e-mail fans. If you are not aware, and
are wondering why you have not seen any e-mails from Bernie this year,
we lost our Conductor and Historian emeritus last December. Bernie was
the heart and soul of the Depot and he is sourly missed. We have
dedicated the station masters office to Bernie and plan to build a 20
foot by 40 foot picnic pavilion just south of the Interlocking Tower
later this year and dedicate it to Bernie's memory as well . If you
are interested in supporting this project, please send your
contributions to the Depot or donate at the "Give" page on our
website (hopewelldepot.org) . We are now working on providing Depot
update e-mails one or two times per month during the summer and fall
seasons , so stay tuned . Joe Sullivan President, Hopewell Depot
Restoration Corp. PO Box 1044, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533
