East Stroudsburg is entering into a revitalization program through the PA Main Street program. Part of this program gives matching state grants for facade renovation. The first client for this facade renovation will be Dansbury Depot and the owner (Pat) is considering changing the paint scheme to something "more authentic". As President of the Eastburg Community Alliance we are administering the grant program and Pat has asked for our help in identifying an appropriate color scheme. You guys are the expert researchers. What should it be? Please give pantone references or similar index and supporting arguements for your choice. We will working on the Rail Tower probably next year as we wamt to get the roof done there first and are researching other grants for the Rail Society. Any help will be appreciated. Anyone know of any scale model kits of this depot? Anyone modelling the Dansbury Depot is 3d or MSTS? Regards Stephen Washington

The depot probably went through several different paint schemes, depending on the owner (originally DL&W, later Erie Lackawanna) and period. I am not an expert on either of these railroads, but there are sources, such as Morning Sun Publications, with color photos of at least a few depots for each line. You might also ask the historical societies for each railroad, and try the erie-lack talk list. Good luck with the restoration!

Fire Destroys Former Railroad Station In Poconos http://wfmz.com/view/?id=1288445# Sad news. Henry POSTED: 10-26-2009 04:21 AM ET | MODIFIED: 10-26-2009 10:46 AM ET Fire Destroys Former Railroad Station In Poconos A landmark in Monroe County was destroyed by fire early this morning. The flames broke out around 2:30 at the Dansbury Depot on Crystal Street in East Stroudsburg. The building used to serve as the Dansbury Railroad Station, but it had since been converted into a restaurant. There were no reports of any injuries. Firefighters are expected to be at the scene for most of the day.

This is indeed a terrible shame, and a loss for Steamtown trains. It made for a perfect stopping location. Of all the towns on the Pocono line, East Stroudsburg actually looks and feels like a real destination. All the other stations seem located too far from town or are hidden in the trees, or there doesn't seem to be much of a town. I hope the owners of the restaurant did well with the excursion riders who took lunch there when the train stopped on October 17. With 360 or so riders, they certainly had a chance for success.

Will the station be able to be saved? Like how the Quakertown station was, it had a fire in May, 1989 in the roof yet they completely restored it.

We were there on the 17th and many people from the train ride ate their. We enjoyed our lunch there and then toured the switching tower afterwords. That is really going to impact Steamtown's trips to East Stroudsburg. Photo taken 10-17-09

I had an opportunity to walk around the outside of the East Stroudsburg Station yesterday and am happy to report that the bulk of the building is very good shape. In fact, a door to the northern end (RR west) of the building was open and a engineer/architect type was seated at one of the tables going over some plans. I have to say the Fire Department did an excellent job in containing the fire. Hopefully insurance will cover everything and the building will be brought back to its glory soon. Speaking as a volunteer firefighter (and instructor) of 20 plus years experience, I saw nothing that would make me believe that the building would be condemned and torn down.

If I stand in Grandma's back yard in Georgetown and close my eyes real tight, I can still hear CNJ freights grinding up the backtrack......and smell the smoke from the brake shoes of a Tuscan Century 628 as it leads NE-84 through Georgetown Interlocking on its way to a meet with the D&H at W-B.....

Andy, that is great news! Now I am only curious how long repairs will take, only time will tell.

That is good to hear, I have been checking the paper and I have't seen anything if they found the cause of the fire. Mike

Fire in a restaurant? Time to go over the books, carefully.

| Poor economic times often seem to be coupled with a lot of fires in business properties. I guess my former profession (attorney, mostly doing criminal defense) makes me suspicious of the matter....
