Just thought I would tip off the Cape Breton and Nova Scotia Railway locomotive watchers to be on the lookout for (2) GP38-2's (Sorry . . . but this isn't any Alco news) that will be appearing on the railroad soon.  The LLPX2259 will be painted in a very UPish paint scheme, but will carry the markings LLPX2259 and the  LLPX2269 will carry a blue/white paint scheme.  These will be leasers from Locomotive Leasing Partners, L.L.C.  (Here's a pic of one of the 2259's sister units, the LLPX 2253, and a couple of shots of the 2269's sister unit the 2271.)  Apologies for the pics, I didn't park the 2253 by the lightpole nor take the front half of the 2271 at VMV, but it is a nice nose shot.

They are currently located on the Montreal, Maine and Atlantic (successor to the now defunct Bangor & Aroostook) and will be shipping to CB&NS within the next week or two.

Georgetown Ontario. - By cn_bayview on 08/19/02 at 22:54:52 - 'Amtrak_34_passing_Georgetown_Station..JPG' 103 KB
HI,
Here are some Pictures from Georgetown Ontario.

It is on the CN Halton sub.

It has an old station and you just park in the parking lot. There's a thrid track for the station and 3 or 4 tracks on the north side. They park GO trains there on weekends.

From the Platform you can see signals going each way.

VIA and Amtrak run trains on the Halton sub to Silver and then go onto the Godrich and Exceder(I spelt it wrong) to London and on to sarnia. The Amtrak goes to Chicago.

Here are a few pics. I'll add more soon.

Here's Amtrak 34 passing the station.

Re: Expressway operations and Canadian RR Museum i - By cn_bayview on 08/13/02 at 23:32:33 - 'cnr6765.jpg' 168 KB
Hi,
Expressway usually passed though from 11am-3pm. (Last year)

I was at the Canadian Railway mueseum last year.
Man it was great! It was some day that some quebec politician was coming to visit after they gave 300,000 $ to the mueseum.

And they had EX engineers in steam engine cabs and had the John Molson running.

The bells are very hard to ring in the steam engines. (By hand!)
They have a great looking CNR FPA4 in CN green on display. Also they have a CP MLW M630. And RS18 CN.
Different Steamers. I always forget to get photos of the steamers!  Also if you have a scanner you can listen in to CP, It's right next to the CP mainline. I got a CP freight plus the BAR(Bagnor and Arostik (Spelt it wrong) it usually as EX F40's.

I'll post photos of the mueseum in a week or so. My dads going to Florida for businees and is bringing his computer, It has photos from last year and before on it.

BUT here's the FPA4!

Re: Go Transit Photos - By cn_bayview on 08/04/02 at 16:53:27 - 'GO_539.JPG' 201 KB
Here is GO 539 and GO 540.
Some of GO's F59's have Air Conditioning. So if the locomotive assigned to the weekend run doesn't have it GO puts an Airconditioned unit on. (It's a waste of power but I bet the crews like it!)

On the weekend GO has 3 trains running. In Oakville they pull into the 3 track and unload and the engineer switches ends.  Same at pickering. GO's are at Oakville at 20 after and leave at 30 after.

Hi,
Here are some Go Transit Photos.
Feel free to post your's!

What is GO?
Go is Toronto Commuter agency. It is owned by the TTC And CN supplies the crews on CN lines and CP supplies crews on the CP lines.

On the weekend GO runs trains from Pickering to Oakville. And on weekdays Go runs trains from Oshawa(?) to Hamilton and on CP lines(Dunno where to. Toronto to?)

GO runs F59's and a cab car at the end for Push Pull service.

This photo is of cab car 211 speeding across Chartwell crossing just outside of Oakville yard.

CN 149 thru Oakville. - By cn_bayview on 07/30/02 at 12:47:15 - 'cn_2573_and_2610.JPG' 126 KB
Hi,
CN 149 comes thru Oakville via Downtown Toronto if the crew is qualified to run on this part of the Oakville sub. It saves alot of time also.

Here are a few pictures of it:

This one is of the 2573.
My dad was getting tickets for the week (VIA tickets to go downtown to work.)
And I got a VIA and a GO train.
Just before I left the signal turned green.
I wanted to stay but he said we had to go.
So we left and what do we see coming around the curve...? 2 C44's.
We were waiting at a traffic light so i juimped out and jot this photo.
Not the best photo though...

Re: Anyone going to Bayview on Saturday for the  C - By cn_bayview on 07/24/02 at 18:32:14 - 'CN_5664_on_148.JPG' 217 KB
Here is 148.
He had a meet with a VIA and waited at a yellow untill the via passed. Once the VIA passed he pulled up to the red and the dispatcher couldn't get the switch thrown. So the conducter had to get out throw all switches by hand and the train had to go at restricted speed untill the next signal. (2 miles away)
While he did that we went to aldershot to get him again and another train that was switching.

Re: Anyone going to Bayview on Saturday for the  C - By cn_bayview on 07/24/02 at 18:26:49 - 'CN_5455.JPG' 199 KB
Hi,
At the CN Lines thing there were about 20 people.
All of the locals talked to each other and the CN Lines people talked togheter. So it wasn't more than a normal day at bayview for the locals. It was pretty quiet for train traffic in the morning.
But around noon it picked up and we saw about 10 trains from 12-3.
By about 11 all the CN lines people left and there were about 3 people on the plains road bridge.
The GMD1 on CN local 550 went threw bayview and surprised the people on the bridge. (Me and my dad were watching it switch and came over while he was doing a brake test.

After that everything picked up.

Some one at Bayview showed me the line up for the day and 872 (A unit grain train) was going to come thru around 8 pm. With 2 Ex:KCS now GTW Sd40-2s and an IC sd40-2.

So later that night me and my dad went out and he never showed. we waited to 9 pm and it was getting dark.

I'll post some pictures from the day.
Here is one from later in the day.
CN 5455 in CN's new paint scheme.

It gets better. CP also goes threw Hamilton.CP has a yard in Hamilton. It is ex: TH&B. The GO trains run on CN to Hamilton west then go onto the CP track to the TH&B station in Hamilton.

Hamilton Ontario - By cn_bayview on 06/28/02 at 12:47:25 - 'cn1433a.JPG' 153 KB
Hi,
This forum is about Hamilton Ontario Canada. Hamilton has a big CN yard, CN has leased the yard to Raillink so now you see Railink SW1200's and a GP9 switching. Occasionally a CN GP9 will come and switch. In the Engine shop place CN has a GMD1 and a GP9 for there steel Train to Nanticoke.
A few VIA's go threw each day plus an amtrak each way.
There is an NS twice a day. And a Hand full of CN Freights.

Here is CN's 1433 and 7080 (1433 is a GMD1)

Re: Oakville Yard. - By cn_bayview on 06/26/02 at 16:42:25 - 'cp5729.JPG' 136 KB
Thanks!

It's a pretty good railfanning spot. Even when mainline traffic is slow you can watch trains switch the yard.
The best time to go is in the Morning. there are usually 2-4 different trains switching. Plus Go trains and VIA's.
(Dont go the first week of July, It's the ford plants Vacation So not much switching will be happening)

If you go out around 4 to 8, you will see 1 VIA at 4:20, GO traffic increases around that time, 2 other VIA's at around 5:15 and 5:45(I think). Then one via at 6:00. Alot of GO trains, Some GO trains coming back to Mimicoe Then at 6:45 you will see an Amtrak.(usually late due to the border)
Then at around 7 you will see another VIA and around 7:30 to 8:00. you will see a CP Freight come threw. Around 8 to 9 you MIGHT see a CN freight.

Rob

Heres the 5729 at Oakville yard at Around 7:45. in late April 2002.

Re: Oakville Yard. - By cn_bayview on 06/25/02 at 18:48:22 - 'VIA_913_and_GO_230.JPG' 237 KB
Here is VIA 914 passing GO 230 at Oakville Station.
Oakville station has 3 tracks. 2 mainline and 1 for GO trains. On weekends Go trains have a 10 minute stop and switch ends and head back to Toronto then to Pickering then they come back.
The Go train was slowly( 15-20MPH) gettingcloser to the station and we saw the VIA coming up behind it. The VIA was traveling 30-40 MPH and just beat it to us. And thats how this photo came to happen.

Here is my favourite GP9RM. The 7261. The reason it is my favourite is because I went for a cab ride in it once.

Re: Favourite Railfaning Spot? - By Ken V on 06/23/02 at 13:29:26 - 'Newcastle_PortHope_map.gif' 68 KB
My favourite is the stretch between Newcastle and Port Hope ON where the Montreal-Toronto mainlines of both CN and CP run close to each other.  There's plenty of VIA and CN trains along with an occasional CP train.

I compiled this map of the area from mapquest.com.  There's a gap where the rail lines aren't shown so I approximated their location by hand.  The red X's mark the spots I like to park and watch the action from.

Re: Aldershot  East and West - By cn_bayview on 06/21/02 at 21:45:04 - 'cn_5646.JPG' 171 KB
Here is CN 5664. It was on the Toronto to New York Intermodal. It had 6 cars this day. 1 car higher than the usual 5 cars. It's a waste. They used to run the train with 1 GP40-2w. But now I only see it with an SD75 or C44.
It was photographed at Aldershot West.
The cars in the backround are of another CN Freight. The CN freights that have to switch park there train on the north main. and go into the yard. If needed they will pull the train into the yard.

Aldershot  East and West - By cn_bayview on 06/21/02 at 15:26:09 - 'cn5664_and_5415.jpg' 211 KB
HI,
Aldershot is a great location on CN in Southern Ontario.
It is located on The Oakville Sub. In beween Bayview and Burlington west.
Aldershot is part of the town of Burlington and has a yard.
The yard is not very big but most trains stop and set off and pick up cars. There is a West and East end. On the West is the VIA Station and on the est is the crossing.
At the west end there is 2 bridges and a few other locations to photograph trains.

Here is a photo of CN 5664 running through Aldershot and CN 5415 switching in aldershot.
This photo is on the west end.
