The thought has come across my mind and I'm not sure if others on here or otherwise have brought it up.  I was noticing the other day while waiting at a Traffic signal: "Would railroad signals (not crossing signals) ever be LED?  I have noticed that the crossing signals have this technology, but do the wayside signals.  Any feedback on this?

Many RRs have been replacing bulbs with LEDs in the last few years; I'd guess it's usually done when maintenance folks have to go out anyways to replace a burned-out bulb -- but RR signal bulbs last a long, long time, so the conversion will take quite a while to complete.
