CSX is working to replace the B&O style CPL's on the Toledo Subdivision. My contacts with the signal department say that within the next two years the entire line should be converted over to the now standard Safetran CLS-20R color light signal.  Currently, the signal crews are working extensively in the Dayton, Ohio area.

So, if you like B&O style CPL's, I would not  hesitate to get track side soon.

Are the CPLs still in place between Sidney and Deshler? I am hoping to photograph them in August.

My question to CSX is why bother to replace the signals when you don't know how to run the trains?

Coffee,

The grade crossings at the signal location you mentioned are currently being upgraded. (Elm, Marion and Mulberry)

Will CSX need to take down the position lights in Deshler,Ohio when they build the new intermodal yard?

As reported in RAILPACE magazine in Feb. 2009, the CPLs at Sterling, Ohio have been replaced.  The station and tower at this former B&O junction were demolished long ago, but the signals at least preserved some feeling of the former B&O .

No, the interlocking at Deshler will have nothing to do with the new intermodal yard at North Baltimore, Ohio.

If the CPLs survive, then Deshler will remain one of the "purest" sites on the former B&O, appearing much as it did when the Cincinnatian and the Capitol Limited trains went by decades ago.
