My Favorite is the B&O CPL, here is my second. A crossing signal built by the miniature train and railroad company in 1946.

I am not as well versed as my colleagues in the traditional signs of our area roads. In fact I don't even know what they are called namewise but I recognize almost all of the ones shown on this thread. Regardless, my favorite is those PRR big black pie-plates, as I call them. Maybe 3' across with different colored lights arrayed. Probably this favoritism is due to my, (as a younger and law breaking teen), climbing the light trestle/bar over the double track and hiding behind one of these huge pie-plates to watch an oncoming fast frieght barreling toward and beneath me. The exhaust and heat blowing up through the decking would be my reward!

Pennsy"Pie Plates" as you call them were position light signals, but they were all Clear or Yellowish to pierce through the fog or whatever. If they had different colors(Red/Yellow/Green) They were B&O CPL's or Color position lights.

Thanks! Was wondering what a CPL was. I guess I don't remember the color(s) of those lights. It has been a mighty long time. It was definitely PRR though, well PC and CR in my days out there.

Not "all" of the PRR signals showed horizontal ambers when displaying stop----some showed red "eyes". The two outers were red, while the center bulb would not illuminate, leaving red eyes!

Did not know that Charlie. We had a Pennsy line that went to Sodus bay, had Pennsy position lights on each side of Route 104 where the line crossed at grade, and they were all amber. Thanks for the photo and letting us know! I love Railroad signals, they are just as interesting to me as the rest of the railroad!

That is really interesting! Thanks for that. The ones I remember are differently mounted, on a trestle or bar across the  double track. I think I need to run up there and get a picture. Even though they're unused and dead they are still there last I knew. I'll be back soon...

Can we get a side order of "dates" with that? Some "exact location" on the side would be nice, too!

I must say I was very much startled when, at sites on AMTK NEC, the heritage P R R Position Light
signals reworked into faux B & O Color Position Lights! B & O vindicated!

All I really did was do a google search for "PRR Position Light Signals" on google images---just did a quick search to see if there were any shots with the red lenses and that's what I came up with---sorry, no other info......

Thanks! The colored lenses are suspect, in genuine P R R article. I know that AMTK played with them, post its arrival on the tracks...

Clayburn junction British Columbia SRY crossing the CPR. This is the last armstrong interlocking that I know of. Is there any more out there?
