From what I know, there are a few trains running weekly on this line running into Port Arthur in Staten Island.

There has been a lot of money spent rehabing this line including the Arthur Kill drawbridge.  The Port Authority is banking a lot to make this port expand and the railroad is a very big part of this.

So far there is nothing to report on the RVRR. The economy has taken its toll on the rehabilitation of the line. I'm still looking for photos to post but haven't been able to find any.  George Picyk

i know trains still run on the line today. just barely though....i've seen hoppers moved from time to time. the tracks aren't over grown with weeds or grass at all. ergo, the line is still going.

I thought they were moving trash and containers around.  Since they closed the Fresh Kills landfill,  NYC's trash has been leaving by trash container.   These can often be seen on Route 440 on Staten Island.

There is also a new container terminal right near the AK lift bridge, with its own snazzy GP38-2.

Though I was told this was mostly about shipping out the City's trash,  its definitely likely that this was a move to increase the port's "Value".

There are already plans to rebuild and lift the Bayonne Archbridge (I think the largest in the world, or at least this country) so that larger ships can get underneath  (As high as the bridge is, many container ships can only pass during low tide, and ships hitting the bridge is not uncommon).

Having railroad access would definitely be a plus, especially considering the limited traffic capacity of the Outerbridge (ironically named after a person, not the fact that its the outer most bridge.) and Goethals Bridge.

Garbage trains do still run over the bridge on weekends Chris. As George noted, the RV part of the line remains stuck in time from 6 years ago.
From what I understand, the Goethals bridge will be demolished in favor of a new bridge.

They are still running.  In fact the last run was yesterday, Sunday 12/2, at 10:45a.  I only caught the return run to Bayway as it was crossing 9th ave in Roselle with just an engine.
